Each country in Europe boasts its unique traditions, delicious cuisine and beautiful vistas.  Steeped in old-world history and story book enchantment, it’s easy to see why we chose to showcase Europe in our latest Travel Checklist guide.  Imagine strolling in the manicured gardens of an old French Chateau, while michelin-starred chefs prepare a mouthwatering feast of their very best creations, paired with a crisp sauvignon blanc, as well as a festive evening of flowing french champagne!  Watch a traditional Spanish flamenco dance at your reception or just listen to the waves kiss the shore as you kiss your soulmate and say, “I do.”

Europe is also home to some of the world's most picturesque wedding venues with no shortage of beautiful options.  Europe boasts towns steeped in romance, making them the perfect backdrops for a destination wedding.  The cobblestone streets, ancient architecture, and scenic views add a timeless charm to your event that are hard to find anywhere else.

Although it seems a world away, Europe is easily accessible with numerous international airports and a highly efficient and fast rail network. This makes it surprisingly convenient for guests traveling from different parts of the world.  In addition, once you’re in Europe, traveling between countries is relatively easy, allowing you to plan a romantic honeymoon filled with incredible experiences.

1) Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Amalfi Coast’s charming towns, dramatic cliffs and ocean views, create a stunning setting for your big day. Couples can choose from luxury resorts, historic churches, or beautiful gardens and restaurants overlooking the sea.  Our favorite venue is the Castello Di Vincigliata

Dating back to 1000 AD, the castle as it stands today, took shape just over 150 years ago. In a breathtaking location with beautiful views over Florence, the venue has a lovely formal garden next to the main building in which to host your wedding ceremony, followed by drinks on their picturesque, terracotta paved terrace.  For your reception, celebrate in either the closed courtyard that’s open to the sky with an option for tents, or take the party inside for up to 300 guests if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

2) Tuscany, Italy

For our number two pick, our love affair with Italy continues, this time in Tuscany!  Best known for its world renowned wines, vineyards, historic villas and rolling hills, Tuscany offers a rustic, yet elegant setting.  Exchange your vows under the Tuscan sun, surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, cyprus trees and centuries-old Italian architecture.

Our venue of choice is COMO Castello Del Nero in Barberino,Tuscany.

COMO Castello Del Nero is a breathtakingly beautiful, 740-acre Italian Renaissance estate situated in the Chianti region of Tuscany.  The center of this historic estate is a twelfth-century castle layered with colorful frescoes from the renaissance, as well as contemporary design, updated with fresh interiors by Milanese designer Paola Navone. The resort offers a Michelin-starred restaurant, La Torre which is known for its spectacular gourmet Italian cuisine, using the freshest local produce grown on the estate’s very own gardens, vineyards, and olive groves.  Rounding out the Luxury resort experience, you will find two tennis courts and a gorgeous heated outdoor swimming pool nestled in the garden’s artfully landscaped greenery.  One of our main draws to this estate is the historic and aisle-worthy on site chapel!

3) Santorini, Greece

Santorini is a dream come true for couples seeking a romantic and scenic wedding.  It is known for its iconic white-washed, cerulean blue roof top buildings, stunning sunsets, and crystal-clear waters.  It was hard to choose, as most venues were spectacular, but we settled on Santorini Gem - originally a private villa with a luxe pool and a garden surrounding it.  It lives up to its name as a real gem, featured on many travel guides as one of the top Santorini wedding venues.  Located on the cliffside of Pyrgos village, it offers incredible views of the Aegean sea and volcano.  Wedding vows take place on the terrace with up to 160 seated guests. The villa is available for bridal prep and for the night of the wedding.  For wedding receptions, they provide an indoor area surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, showcasing incredible views.  Or if you prefer, there is also the outdoor poolside area available. Food and beverages are provided by the venue with many delectable Greek cuisine favorites.  Freshly caught and prepared of course!

4) Provence, France

La Vie en Lavande.  Provence - famous for its lavender fields, charming villages, and Mediterranean coastline, a Provençal wedding is a wondrous melange of rustic and sophisticated.  We J'adore the Château des Dentelles.  Lined with cypress trees, the enchanting Chateau is the perfect spot for your ceremony. In the park’s center is a secluded tree-lined area that also provides ample shade during the hottest hours of the day in summertime.  Raise your glasses and toast with sparkling flutes of champagne on the terrace, as delectable hors d'oeuvres are elegantly served by the most celebrated staff in France (that will go above and beyond to help you create the wedding of your dreams.)

In the main courtyard, with a majestic fountain in the center of it all, long wooden tables with vibrant floral pieces and twinkling fairy lights are on the menu, along with food from their famed restaurant.  If your guests love to dance, head to the main living room that features an Art Deco bar. Festivities continue the following day with a pool party, complete with a Provencal cuisine wedding lunch.

Edinburgh is one of the most incredible cities in the world. For those dreaming of a fairytale wedding, Edinburgh’s historic castles and cinematic landscape provide a dramatic and enchanting backdrop. The city's rich history and gothic architecture add a touch of magic to any celebration.  Edinburgh is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

Rounding out our list is Carberry TowerWe love the regal majesty of this authentic castle  with a storied royal history and beautiful, landscaped grounds.  This venue is ideal for a Royal Wedding of a Prince and his Princess Bride.  We’re in awe of THE CHAMPAGNE TERRACE, a stunning gift from the late Queen Mother to her sister who used to live here, the terrace overlooks the south lawns. and is a throwback to an era of grandeur and elegance in outdoor entertaining.  It’s Downton Abbey, meets VersaillesThe Scottish castle also offers Micro Weddings for smaller, more intimate affairs.

Your Travel Checklist at a Glance: Six Bonus Tips for Planning a Destination Wedding in Europe.

1. Hire a Local Wedding Planner.

A local wedding planner can help navigate language barriers, legal requirements, and vendor negotiations. Their expertise ensures that everything runs smoothly, allowing you to enjoy your big day stress-free.

2. Visit the Venue in Advance.

If possible, try to visit your chosen venue before the wedding to help you plan logistics like accommodations and transportation for your guests.  This will also give you a chance to finalize details and meet with local vendors.

3. Consider Legal Requirements.

Each country in Europe has different legal requirements for marriage. Make sure to research these well in advance to ensure you have all necessary documents and understand the process.

4. Make sure everyone’s Passports and Visas are Up To Date!

Check your passports for their expiration dates to avoid the six month rule.  Make sure kids who travel for the wedding have their passports and that guests who have had name or gender changes have their Passport in place as well.

5. Inform Your Guests in Advance.

Give your guests plenty of notice so they can make timely travel arrangements. Include detailed information about accommodations, transportation, and local attractions to help them plan their trip.
