Are you looking forward to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London? Are you planning to visit England to see the games in person? Be sure to get your passport.
Team USA Basketball is gearing up for the 2012 Summer Olympics to be held in London, England. While it is obvious that all of the players representing the USA will need passports to travel to England, there are plenty of other NBA players who will be using their passports to play for their native countries.
Several players have the option to play for different countries. Cleveland Cavalier rookie sensation Kyrie Irving holds dual US / Australian passports. It is reported that he has rejected the opportunity to represent Australia in the Olympics because he would like to represent Team USA in the 2016 Games.
It is also reported that Charlotte Bobcats’ rookie Byron Mullens has gotten a British passport in an attempt to play for England. In the meantime, Indiana Pacers player Darren Collison and Memphis Grizzly Dante Cunningham tried to prove British family ties, but were both denied. Detroit Pistons guard Ben Gordon committed to play basketball for Team Britain, but may not play afterall. Chicago Bulls Luol Deng is scheduled to use his passport to play for Great Britain.
Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs is using his French passport to play in the Olympics. Dirk Nowitzki won’t be using his German passport because Team Germany didn’t qualify.
Pau Gasol, Ricky Rubio, Juan Carlos Navarro and Rudy Hernandez will use their Spanish passports to make the trip to London for the 2012 Games.
In the meantime, let’s hope that the following Team USA players have their passports ready to roll this summer:
LaMarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Tyreke Evans, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Danny Granger, Blake Griffin, Jeff Green, Dwight Howard, Andre Iguodala, LeBron James, Al Jefferson, David Lee, Brook Lopez, Robin Lopez, Kevin Love, O.J. Mayo, Lamar Odom, Chris Paul, Kendrick Perkins, Tayshaun Prince, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, Amar’e Stoudemire, Dwyane Wade, Gerald Wallace, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams.

It’s time to get your paperwork together in order to take advantage of Passport Day in the USA 2012. In one week from tomorrow, on Saturday, March 10th, 2012, the US Department of State is set to host the 4th annual “Passport Day in the USA” event. The purpose of this passport event is to give US citizens an opportunity to apply for passport books or passport cards on a Saturday. Although the US Department of State does not normally process passports on Saturdays and their agencies are not open, Rush Passport™’s New York City passport agency is always open on Saturdays. ”Passport Day in the USA” gives people who could not go to the passport agency during the week an opportunity to get a passport on the weekend.
It is important to know that you will need proof of birth. In addition, those applying for a first-time passport will need to appear in person. Many people don’t know that in 2009 legislation was put into effect that requires US citizens to provide a passport for travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
In addition to being used as official travel documents, passports also serve as documents to prove one’s identity. Rush Passport™’s New York Passport Agency in Manhattan, at 875 6th Avenue, Suite #1606 will be accepting passport applications and passport renewals on March 10th and all other days Monday – Saturday. Our passport photo services will also be available.
If you are a first-time adult passport applicant, need a child passport, need to renew a passport, or would like to apply for a passport card, Rush Passport™ is the passport agency in New York City to get your passport and handle all of your passport and visa needs.
If you have questions about getting a visa, a passport, an expedited passport, emergency passport, passport renewal, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. In a recent Rush Passport™ blog entry, the topic was getting a Chinese visa to travel to the United States.
The main problem with the United States visa system is that it cannot keep up with the Chinese demand. China is currently the source of over 10% of all US visa applications. The only other country that has more passport holders applying for US visas is Mexico. With so many visa applicants, the visa system should be able to accomodate the large numbers to maximize travel to the United States.
However, the is a currently a 3 month wait just to get a visa applicant interview. Each visa applicant must have an in-person visa interview in order to be approved for travel to the United States.
It is in the best interest of the United States to process Chinese visa applicants more efficiently.
In order to expedite the handling of visas from China to the United States, there needs to be more American staff members at the embassy and UIS Consulates in China. In addition, more interview facilities need to be made available to Chinese visa applicants. The best case scenario is that a visa interview can be made in 48 hours or less once the visa application is submitted.
Another way to make the visa process smoother would be to grant visas to pre-qualified travelers who were granted visas in the past.
It is understood that national security should be the United States’ prime concern, but it is also very important from an economical standpoint to make the visa application process more efficient.
Other countries are competing for Chinese tourists and have taken steps to ease the visa process. Japan, for example, has made it so that a Chinese visa applicant who lives in a big city must only need to have a credit card to be approved for a visa.
New Zealand has also eased theire visa regulations with the hopes of attracting Chinese tourists.
Spain sees the opportunites to bring in more Chinese tourists and in addition to easing visa regulations, has also encouraged airlines to schedule more direct flights between the two countries.
Germany is also planning moves towards simplifying the visa process for Chinese applicants.

An article at Gadling.com predicts that as a result of the Costa Concordia disaster, the cruise industry is going to make some changes to the way passports are handled.
The changes to expect in the very near future deal mostly with safety. For starters, cruise travelers will need to participate in a safety drill on all sailings before the ship departs. In addition, there may be an end to behind the scenes tour or the ship’s navigational bridge. There is also expected to be an increase in security presence on cruise ships. There will alos likely be stricter policies in place regarding underage drinking. Background checks of passengers and psychological profiles of command officers will be more substantial.
There is also speculation regarding passport rules. Cruise ships may require passports to be required by all passengers. The travel industry is obviously against this because it may prevent US citizens without passports from traveling on cruise ships. There is the argument that requiring passports would result in an increased level of security. Requiring passports of all passengers embarking any ship at any time certainly presents a more secure atmosphere.
If you are planning to take a cruise, passports may soon be required for all passengers and all destinations. If you already have a passport, then you are in luck. Those of you who still do not have a US passport, this may be a good time to get one.
If you need more pages in your passport, a visa, an expedited passport, emergency passport, passport renewal, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. Pitbull is one of the hottest music stars of 2011 and into 2012. In the song, Pitbull brags about using his passport to visit “countries and cities that (he) can’t pronounce.” He also says that in the Domincan Republic (DR) “they looking for visa’s I Ain’t taking credit cards if you know what I mean!”

Lyrics to “She’s Hotter” boast “what else can you ask for, international playa buddy, just take the passports anytime anyplace anywhere we don’t care.”

Whatever happened to the captain going down with the ship? In light of the Concordia disaster, one of the most disturbing parts is the decision of Captain Francesco Schettino to abandon ship with passengers still aboard. Another disturbing event is, according to transcripts, his refusal to return to the ship to lead rescue efforts when he was ordered to do so by local port officials.
While under US law, it is not a crime for the captain to abandon ship, it is a maritime tradition that the captain be the last one off a sinking ship.
Even if you can’t count on the captain of the ship, there are certain things that passengers can do to be prepared. US citizens who are traveling abroad should register with the US Department of State’s free Smart Traveler Enrollment program (STEP) at https://travelregistration.state.gov . US citizens can also register directly at US embassies or US consulates. By registering with the State Department, US passport holders can be assisted more quickly in the event of an emergency.
Before boarding a cruise ship, it is important to make copies of your passport and all of the passports in your traveling party.
If you need a visa, an expedited passport, emergency passport, passport renewal, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. An article in the USA today states that “For most foreigners, taking a last-minute business or leisure trip to New York, Los Angeles, Miami or other U.S. travel hubs would be nearly impossible. The average wait time for a visa interview in Rio de Janeiro, for example, was 87 days, according to the State Department.”
In a perfect world, visa interview wait times should not be more than a week, travelers would not overstay their visas and terrorists would not apply for visas. However, this not being a perfect world, the US must do its best to balance the importance of visa applications and national security.
Most visitors to the United States enter through the country’s Visa Waiver Program. The Visa Waiver Program allows travelers from 36 countries to temporarily visit the United States without a visa. Currently, Argentina, Brazil, Poland and Taiwan are not part of the Visa Waiver Program. Many feel that these nations should be added because their residents are not likely to illegally overstay their visas and decide to stay in the United States indefinitely.
It is also tough for tourists from countries like India, China, Mexico to use their passports to travel to the US because they must obtain nonimmigrant visas. The nonimmigrant visa process is lengthy and expensive.
Passport holders who live far away from their country’s visa processing centers must visit the interview location without knowing whether or not their visas will be approved. A proposed solution to the visa interview process is videoconferencing. However, the US Department of State is not willing to explore this option due to safety and technological concerns.
Prior to 9/11, in-person visa application interviews were not required. Visas could be approved by consular officials based solely on responses entered into the visa application. Visa applicants must go through more intense screenings that include fingerprint checks and facial recognition screening of passport photographs.
