Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs is using his French passport to play in the Olympics.   Dirk Nowitzki won’t be using his German passport because Team Germany didn’t qualify.

Pau Gasol, Ricky Rubio, Juan Carlos Navarro and Rudy Hernandez will use their Spanish passports to make the trip to London for the 2012 Games.

In the meantime, let’s hope that the following Team USA players have their passports ready to roll this summer:

LaMarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Tyreke Evans, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Danny Granger, Blake Griffin, Jeff Green, Dwight Howard, Andre Iguodala, LeBron James, Al Jefferson, David Lee, Brook Lopez, Robin Lopez, Kevin Love, O.J. Passports are About to Become More Secure Thanks to a New Discovery in the UK: Rush Passport

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

Passport security is important to many countries around the world.  Much thought is put in to creating a passport that is difficult to forge.  Fraudulent passports can present a danger to a country’s security.  New technology is constantly being harnessed to produce the most secure passport in the world.

Secure US PassportThe US passport is considered to be one of the most secure passports in the world.  That may be about to change as scientists in the UK have created a substance that may revolutionize the passport industry.   In an effort to protect the integrity of passports, the scientists have developed a pigment-free polymer that can make passports very difficult to copy.

While this doesn’t guard against a person using forged documents to obtain a passport, it makes it more difficult to actually create a fake passport.

This new substance can not only be used in passports, but may also be applied to money.  The part of the technology that makes this difficult to counterfeit is the chemistry involved in making the material.  It has been compared to the way that nature creates color for butterfly wings.

Here at Rush Passport™, we welcome any new technology that will make the US passport more secure.  We hope that this substance proves to be a viable way to thwart passport fraud.  As always, we look forward to new technology that can be employed towards making the US passport as secure as possible.

US Passport Place of Birth Listed as Jerusalem: Rush Passport Blog

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

jerusalem passportA passport case is headed to the US Supreme Court.  The US Supreme Court agreed to listen to an appeal regarding whether an American child born in Jerusalem in 2002 will be allowed to list Israel as the place of birth in his passport.  In 2004, Parents Ari and Naomi Zivotofsky filed a lawsuit after State Department officials refused to list Israel as their son Menachem’s birthplace.  The State Department cited current US policy which lists Jerusalem as the city of birth rather than Israel for children born in Jerusalem.

Had the child been born in Tel Aviv or any other Israeli city, the child’s passport would list Israel as the place of birth.  However, due to the Palestinian dispute over Jerusalem, the US has refrained in listing births that take place in Jerusalem as being born in Israel.

Even though Israel has declared Jerusalem its capital, the US along with several other nations around the world do not list Israel on the passport under place of birth if the birth takes place in Jerusalem.

In 2002, President George W. Bush signed a bill that directed the US Department of State to identify people born in Jerusalem with being born in Israel on their passports.

However, Bush overstepped the office of the president’s authority in formulating US foreign policy.

The US Department of State refuses to list Israel as the place of birth on passports for children born in Jerusalem because they feel that by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, they will isolate the Palestinians and compromise the peace process.

According to the US Department of State, Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel, not Jerusalem. Currently, no country’s embassy is in Jerusalem.  US passports of people born in Jerusalem will continue to list the place of birth as Jerusalem unless the US Supreme Court overturns the previous decision.

Passport Day in the USA: Will Government Shut Down Rain on the Passport Parade?

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Passport Day in the USA

It seems that the US Department of State didn’t see the possible federal government shut down coming when they announced that Saturday, April 9th would be National Passport Day in the USA.  Now, if the federal government shut down takes place on April 8th, then the US Department of State has announced that National Passport Day in the USA will not be held.

passportThe passport event that spans across the US was put into effect as an opportunity for passport applicants to apply for passports during extra Saturday hours at passport acceptance facilities.  Rush Passport™ is always open on Saturdays, so we actually celebrate Passport Day in the USA every week!

If the government does stay open and is able to avoid the shut down, then passport hopefuls will be able to apply for passports all day Saturday.  If not, it is hard to tell when new passports will be made available.

In the event of a government shutdown, American passport holders who are already traveling abroad can still do so.  Also, they will still be able to receive emergency passport assistance from US Embassies and consulates.  The cut backs, however, will have an effect on some of the other work that the consulates do, such as processing US visas.

Hopefully the government shut down will not take place and Passport Day in the USA will be a day in which several American citizens are able to get their passports.

Looking to Get a US Passport? Read Why Some US Citizens are Looking to Get Rid of Their US Passports.

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

U.S. Passports are considered a liability more than a privilege to some people.  Each year, more and more U.S. citizens rid themselves of U.S. passports in an effort to hide their assets from the IRS.  By no means is it a large number of U.S. citizens who are renouncing their citizenship, but the number doubled from 2009 to 2010.  In 2009, 742 U.S. passport holders renounced their citizenship compared to 1,534 citizens who dumped their passports.

US passportThe move by these citizens who rid themselves of their U.S. passports was a response to the U.S. government’s growing efforts to locate and tax their assets from around the world.

If you are thinking of giving up your passport and moving abroad, keep in mind that according to the U.S. Dept. of State you must appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer in another country and sign an oath of renunciation.

Many of the 1,534 people who have given up their U.S. passports are individuals who have accumulated fairly significant amounts of wealth and spend much of their time in other countries around the world.

If you are considering giving up your U.S. passport, then you may not stand to benefit from Rush Passport’s™ passport expediting services.  However, if you are trying to get a U.S. passport, we can help.
