Millions of US citizens hold dual citizenship and have more than one passport. It seems that the US Department of State does not have accurate records of just how many US citizens hold dual citizens. This is because dual citizenship is not recognized in US. However, US residents holding US passports are not forced to choose. Some countries do not allow citizens to hold dual citizenship with the United States. For example, Japanese passport holders and Indian passport holders are not allowed by their respective countries to hold US passports. Holding passports and citizenship from two different countries can cause confusion when paying taxes. In addition, holding 2 passports can also be confusing when it comes to military service. Same-sex marriages is the latest development that is creating confusion when it comes to having dual citizenship and holding 2 passports.
It is estimated that the largest contingents of US citizens who hold US passports and foreign passports are also citizens of Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom. However, these are not the only countries where people have dual citizenship. Dual citizenship is dependent on the relationship that the US has with the particular country in question. For example, Afghanistan, Botswana, Dominican Republic, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, the Philippines, Thailand and Venezuela are among the countries that require their citizens to renounce their citizenship upon getting a US passport. This process is known as forced expatriation.

Well, it’s that time of year again when violent soccer fans, known as “FOOTBALL hooligans” have to surrender their passports. It seems that more than 100 of these “hooligans” from Staffordshire and Cheshire have received letters from the police instructing them to surrender their passports.
The hooligans have been ordered to surrender their passports so that they cannot attend the Euro 2012 soccer tournament. If they do not comply with the request to surrender their passports by May 30th, 2012, they will be arrested.
The reason that police have requested that the “FOOTBALL hooligans” surrender their passports is to prevent them from traveling to Poland and Ukraine for the Euro 2012 soccer tournament. These hooligans have all had football-related offenses in the past.
The hooligans will get their passports back after the final match on July 1st, 2012.
Progress has been made in keeping the matches safe for the fans and the hooligan element ruins the time for fans who come to watch the game in peace.
In addition fans have been warned that if they get into trouble in Poland or the Ukraine, they will be banned from future events and they will receive letters asking them to surrender their passports.
There are over 2,000 people in the UK that have football banning orders and all of them have been requested to surrender their passports. They all will be prevented from leaving the country for the duration of Euro 2012.
In addition, anyone else who gets a banning order between now and the Euro 2012 tournament will be ordered to surrender their passports as well.

Passport security is important to many countries around the world. Much thought is put in to creating a passport that is difficult to forge. Fraudulent passports can present a danger to a country’s security. New technology is constantly being harnessed to produce the most secure passport in the world.
The US passport is considered to be one of the most secure passports in the world. That may be about to change as scientists in the UK have created a substance that may revolutionize the passport industry. In an effort to protect the integrity of passports, the scientists have developed a pigment-free polymer that can make passports very difficult to copy.
While this doesn’t guard against a person using forged documents to obtain a passport, it makes it more difficult to actually create a fake passport.
This new substance can not only be used in passports, but may also be applied to money. The part of the technology that makes this difficult to counterfeit is the chemistry involved in making the material. It has been compared to the way that nature creates color for butterfly wings.
Here at Rush Passport™, we welcome any new technology that will make the US passport more secure. We hope that this substance proves to be a viable way to thwart passport fraud. As always, we look forward to new technology that can be employed towards making the US passport as secure as possible.

Expired passport? Lost passport? You’re not alone. According to a UK passport study, it turns out that 1 out of 10 British travelers have previously planned or attempted to travel abroad with an expired passport. Incidentally, if your passport is expired, then you will be considered ineligible to travel abroad.
An expired passport can ruin a vacation, can be a disaster to a business trip and can prevent travel abroad. However, in a passport emergency, it is still possible to get a passport – even on the same day. Passport expediting services are available to travelers who have lost their passports, had their passports stolen, have expired passports and a host of other reasons. The UK study also shows that 24% of UK passport holders thought you could travel using your passport right up until the date which it expires. This, by the way, is not always the case as tourists often need up to 6 months remaining on their passports when traveling to some destinations.
The UK passport survey also discovered that almost 10% of UK travelers had their travel plans affected by an expired passport. Believe it or not, 13% of UK passport holders thought that they didn’t need a passport to travel within Europe. 3% of UK passport holders actually thought that a passport was not necessary to travel to the United States.

Passports are travel documents that allow people to travel from one country to another. However, sometimes it’s not as simple as just showing your passport at border patrol. Depending on the circumstances, there may be restrictions that apply. When producing your passport, there may be additional requirements such as acquiring a visa. Specific countries have specific visa regulations dependent on which country you are traveling to.
With that being said, a recent study found that the British passport allows for visa-free travel between the UK and 166 different countries. The previous leaders in visa-free travel were the Danes. People from Denmark can travel to 164 countries without a visa.
The top 10 list of countries for which a passport will suffice when traveling abroad include Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Sweden. The United States passport also made the top 10, coming in 7th place despite being the leader in 2006. Countries with the lowest visa free ranking and most passport restrictions include China, India, North Korea and Russia.
Being able to get on a plane and knowing that your passport will be sufficient takes an enormous weight off a passport holder’s shoulders. Traveling can be stressful enough without having to deal with passport issues and visa restrictions.

Passports in the UK are about to get a makeover! The UK Passports have been redesigned in an effort to help fight identity theft and passport fraud.

The main difference between the existing passports and the enhanced passports is that the security chip will now be hidden inside the passport cover.
Enhanced passport security features include placing the passport security chip out of view as well as a personal data section of the new passport that features holograms.
The passport holder’s personal details used to be on the back of the passport and now they appear on the passport’s second page. The passport photo of the passport holder now appears twice. The new passports will be in circulation starting October 2010.
Cosmetic changes to the UK passport include pages that will display UK scenes such as the White Cliffs of Dover and the Giant’s Causeway.
The government expects the new passport to give UK citizens added piece of mind as well as solid protection from identity theft and passport fraud.
The main difference between the existing passports and the enhanced passports is that the security chip will now be hidden inside the passport cover.
This new feature is intended to make it more difficult to alter the chip without causing visible damage to the passport cover.
The change of adding the personal data to page 2 of the passport is an effort to speed up passenger wait times when traveling through border patrols.
This combination of physical and electronic security features will make the UK passport one of the most secure passports in the world, in line with the international passport standards.

In an email sent to a former Russian boyfriend by Chapman, she boasted about living together for a year, getting married, then getting the passport and ‘dumping’ him.
In a previous Rush Passport™ passport blog, the story of Anna Chapman, the sexy daughter or a Russian diplomat and the femme fatale in the middle of a NYC Passport spy ring was told. Chapman was busted by the FBI after she agreed to deliver a fake passport to another woman working as a spy.
Now an update to the story – it is reported that Anna Chapman may want to return to the UK and Britain is considering whether to take away the British passport of the glamorous Russian agent.
Chapman was deported in exchange for four spies freed by Moscow in the biggest spy swap between the US and Russia since the Cold War.
Chapman who spent several years living in London, is accused of marrying a British man so that she could get a British passport.
The case is under consideration by British authorities.
It seems that Home Secretary Theresa May will revoke Chapman’s British citizenship and cancel her British passport. Chapman will lose her passport on the grounds that her marriage to her British ex-husband was falsified for the purposes of getting a passport.

With the US Passport service fee increases now in effect as of July 13th, I wondered how America’s passport fees measure up against the rest of the world. I had several questions: Were our passport fees the most expensive? Which country charges the most for a new passport? Which country charges the least?

What are the rates of passports around the globe?
I decided to do some research and I turned to google to search results for the cost of passports around the world.
My passport fee research looked promising as I was pleased to find a chart put together by the British government that listed passport fees from around the world as of May 2009. You can access the passport chart here. However my passport research hit a bump in the road when I noticed that the fees were listed in their original currencies as exchange rates vary more than passport fees. Also, I discovered that some countries offer passports that are only valid for 5 years while other countries offer passports that are valid for 10 years.
So in order to compare apples to apples, I had to put all passport fees on a level playing field. I utilized the Google Currency Converter and Yahoo Currency Converter with currency rates as of July 7, 2010 to make the process of deciphering passport fees from around the world a bit easier. Also, passport fees that were valid for 5 years were doubled so that all passports are on the 10 year scale.
Let’s start off with the highest passport fees in the world. So, which country has the highest passport fees in the world? That distinction belongs to Turkey. The cost of a Turkish passport valid for 10 years is a whopping $642.11 The least expensive passport is from Georgia (and I don’t mean the state in the US) which comes in at approximately $20.00 for a 10 year passport.
Interestingly enough, the United Kingdom passport runs at just under $110 USD. An Australian passport will cost you about $180 – that’s an awful lot of “shrimp on the barbie”. You would think that the Belgian passports come with diamonds, chocolates or even waffles – but for $180 you only get a passport. Canadians have to shell out a lot of bacon as their passports cost over $165. Japanese passports don’t leave much money over for sushi as they cost $182. New Zealand passports are even more expensive at just over $211. Portugal also makes the top ten coming in at a bit over $151 for a 10 year passport. Brazilian passports round out the list with passport fees of $140. Malaysian passports rake in $187 per person. Currently, with the passport price hike the US barely makes the top ten list at $135.
