US Passports by State: You’ll Never Guess Which State Has the Highest Ratio of Citizens to Passports

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Passports are not as popular with US citizens as people expect.  The latest US passport statistics have been released and surprisingly enough, just 30% of US citizens are US passport holders.  Are you shocked by the number of Americans without US passports?  How many Americans actually have a passport?  Which states have the highest ratio of citizens that are US passport holders?  Do states on or close to the coast tend to have higher ratios of citizens to US passports than land locked states?

US passport mapYes, its true.  States that are either on, or close to the coasts have a tendency to feature the highest percentage of citizens holding US passports.  The top states with the highest ratios valid US of citizens to passports are California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Delaware.  All of these states feature over 60% of the citizens with US passports.  Do you know which state has the overall highest ratio of citizens to passports?  If you guessed New York, you’re wrong.  If you think California has the highest passport to citizen ratio, then you are wrong again.  It’s not Massachusetts either.  Nor is Delaware the leader in passport ratio.  Yup, you guessed it, New Jersey is the winner with over 68% of its citizens holding valid US passports.

There is one state that has the lowest percentage passport holders.  Do you know which state it is? Here’s a hint: It’s not east of the Mississippi or west of the Mississippi because it is Mississippi.  Less than 20% of Mississippi citizens hold US passports.

Regardless of what state you live in, Rush Passport™ can help make your trips come true.

8 Steps to Getting a US Passport for a Baby

US baby passportFirst off, it is important to understand that all international travelers are required to present a passport regardless of age.  In order to get a passport for a baby, both parents / legal guardians are required to be present at the time of the passport application.

Step 1

First it is important to gather the documents that you will need to prove the baby’s U.S. citizenship.  Primary documents only are accepted.  Examples of primary documents include a certified birth certificate, consular report of birth abroad, or foreign birth certificate.  Essentially, it is important to gather additional documents that establish a parental relationship for both parents to the child.  It is important to choose documents that list the names of both parents, such as a birth certificate.

Step 2

Parents must also have official proof of identification.  Parents can use an undamaged, US passport, valid driver’s license, naturalization certificate or military ID.  It is important for parents to also have their social security numbers.  Parents should make copies of these documents on standard white, 8 ½ by 11 inch paper.

Step 3

Get and fill out the baby’s passport application.  The form to use is Form DS-11: Application for a U.S. Passport.  The passport application, Form DS-11 may be completed online or printed out and completed in black ink.  It is important not to sign the printed DS-11.  The passport application must be signed in the presence of a passport agent at the Passport Acceptance Facility.

Step 5

Take two passport photos of the child.  The passport photos must be identical and they must be color photos that are exactly 2 inches by 2 inches.  The baby’s head must be uncovered.

Step 6

Prepare to have the passport fee available.  Pay for the passport application using credit card, check or money orders.  Checks must be made payable to “Department of State.”

Step 7

Take the completed passport application, necessary documentation, passport photos and payment to Passport Acceptance Facility.

Step 8

Allow  4-6 for passport processing.

Passport Renewal? Expired Passport? Need an Expedited Passport? Call Rush Passport Today!

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Do you need a US passport today?  Is your US passport expired?  Do you need a passport for a trip that you are planning to take overseas?  Getting a US passport can be a daunting task for some people.  The US passport application has to be filled out just right.  The passport photos have to satisfy the passport guidelines.  And if you need your passport quick – there is a passport expediting process to contend with.

For a Pennsylvania man, an American who has been trying to get his passport renewed, the passport process has been a nightmare.  Since June 2010, Michael Hudson has been trying to get his US passport renewed so that he can visit his son in Bermuda.

For regular passport applicants, the process can take four to six weeks.  For this man, the passport process has taken 7 months and he still has nothing to show for it.  After contacting the Passport office in Portsmouth, New Hampshire he was told that his passport application is still being processed.

The man, a 54 year old US citizen with no criminal record has been waiting in limbo for his passport to arrive.  The passport office has asked Hudson to produce more information about his education, medical history, financial status and family background.

He has already sent the passport agency copies of his credit card and Social Security card, driver’s license, water bill and a school report card and is still waiting.

Don’t let this happen to you.  If you need a passport, let the passport experts at Rush Passport™ make your trips come true!

Passport San Antonio

New Passport options for San Antonians

According to the San Antonio Business Journal, the San Antonio City Clerk’s Office has been approved to serve as an official U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance Facility.  This move makes it the only municipality in Bexar County with this designation.

A number of San Antonio area post offices currently process US Passports.  Now with the City Clerk Office offering passport services, it will be another option and a valuable resource for residents and municipal workers.

This new passport location should help to ease the backlog of existing passport applications and it comes at a great time as there is a heavy level of travel expected this summer.

In addition, there is talk of several post offices closing next year, so the City Clerk’s Office passport services will provide even more assistance.

Starting today, May 24, San Antonio residents will be eligible to submit passport applications at the main City Clerk’s Office at City Hall and the Municipal Archives and Record Facility located at 719 S. Santa Rosa. Passport service will be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

A major benefit of applying at the Municipal Archives office is the fact that the city’s vital statistics office is next door. In the event that a passport applicant needs to obtain a copy of a birth certificate for the passport application, as long as the person was born in San Antonio, will be able walk next door and pick it up.  Another plus is that the Municipal Archives office offers free parking and is open Saturdays by appointment.
