Babe Ruth Celebrity Passport

People are obsessed with celebrities.  In a previous Rush Passport™ passport blog entry it was reported that a passport employee was even hit with felony charges for accessing confidential celebrity passports.

However, you can see some of the world’s most famous celebrity passport applications here at Rush Passport™’s celebrity passport blog.  Can you guess whose passport application states that he is going to Havana, Cuba for the purpose of “baseball playing”?  It’s not Fidel Castro’s application – but here’s a hint – ever heard of the Sultan of Swat?  Give up?  You’ll have to check Rush Passport™’s passport blog over this next week to find out.  At Rush Passport™’s passport blog, we will be giving you access to 6 of the most famous celebrities of the past 100 years – and don’t worry – there won’t be any felony charges filed against you.

Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, to access celebrity passport applications, you don’t even need a publicist’s approval or a big payout… this information is all free.  All you have to do is ask the State Department.  Passport applications list such details as birth and marriage histories, travel plans, autographs, and some of them even include passport photos.

While I did say that this juicy celebrity passport database is all free – I didn’t say that it would be quick.  Unlike the passport expediting process – that can take as little as 6 hours at Rush Passport™, the celebrity passport application requests took approximately a year and a half to process.

For some reason, the last time we checked, Elvis Presley’s passport application was off limits.  There was no formal explanation from the State Department.

Another celebrity passport application states that a woman was taking the Queen Mary to Europe on “business.”  Her husband is listed as Joseph Paul DiMaggio.  I guess that’s enough of hint to figure out whom that celebrity passport application belongs to.

In addition to finding out some great facts about our favorite celebrities, the celebrity passport applications of the past asked for some additional information that is not on today’s passport application.  For example, in 1920 passport applicants were asked to list the size of their mouths, and the shape of their chins and foreheads.  Passport applications only cost $2 back then and passports were only valid for 2 years.

It is also important to note that passports were not required for US citizens (except for a brief time during the Civil War) until 1941.

Today passports are required to go to Mexico and Canada whereas a driver’s license used to be enough.  Passports are also valid for 10 years.  Today’s passports feature biometric passport chips that contain important passport holder data.

Check back at Rush Passport™‘s passport blog to see which celebrity passport applications we will be posting.

Common Passport Questions Answered

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Passport NYCPeople ask a lot of questions when it comes to passports.  How do I get a passport?  How long does it take to get a passport?  How much does a US passport cost?  Can I get a passport in the event of a life or death emergency?  What should I do if my passport was lost or stolen?  What is the difference between a passport book and a passport card?  How long is an adult passport valid for?  How long is a child passport valid for?  How do I get a passport in a hurry?  What is an e-passport?  When should I renew my passport?  What should I do if my passport is already expired?  What happens to my expired passport when I renew my passport?  Does a wife who takes her husband’s last name need to change the name on her passport?  Can I use a passport that has been mutilated or damaged?

Enough with the questions – here are some answers to commonly asked passport questions.

How much does a U.S. passport cost?

The cost of a U.S. passport really depends on the type of passport and how soon you need it.  In addition to the standard US passport fees, there are additional fees for those seeking expedited passports.

Can people get a passport quicker if they have a life or death emergency?

People with life or death emergencies can get expedited passports.  The individual may be requested to provide documentation of the passport emergency.

What is an E-Passport?

An E-passport or electronic passport refers to the latest technology in which a small integrated passport chip is embedded in the back cover. The chip stores all of the data on the passport as well biometric data that includes the passport photo.

How do I get a rush passport?

To get a passport in a hurry, contact the passport specialists at Rush Passport™.

How long does it take to get a passport?

The amount of time that it takes to get a passport varies depending on the time of year.  During the busy summer travel season, it can take up to 10 weeks or more to receive a passport.  However, applicants can receive an expedited passport on the same day if they opt for expedited services offered by Rush Passport™.

How long is an adult passport valid for?  How long is a child passport valid for?

Passport applicants over the age of 16 receive passports that are valid for 10 years, while passport recipients under the age of 15 years old, must renew their passports in 5 years.

When should I renew my passport?

It is recommended to renew a passport 9 months before it expires.  This is because some countries require that a passport be valid for 6 months before travel.

What should I do if my passport is already expired?

In the event that your passport is already expired, you will need to apply for passport renewal – generally, an expired passport must be renewed in person.

Do I get my old passport back when I renew my expired passport?

The Department of State returns the expired passport back and the expired passport may still be used as proof of citizenship.

Does a wife who takes her husband’s last name need to change the name on her passport?

Yes, a wife who takes her husband’s last name must apply for a passport name change.

Can I continue to use my mutilated / damaged passport?

In the event that your passport has become damaged, you will need to apply for a new passport.  This applies particularly to damage to the passport cover or the page that contains the personal data and passport photo.

Passport Changes Coming to Canada Soon

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Passports in Ottawa, Canada will soon switch over to electronic passports.  The e- passports are due to be issued starting 2012.  The new biometric passports will contain a small RFID passport chip that will contain information about the passport holder including name, gender, date of birth, place of birth as well as a small digital photo of the passport holder’s face. The information contained in the biometric passport book could then be utilized to compare to the passport’s biometric data extracted from the passport chip.

Canadian epassport biometric chi

It is undetermined whether or not the new passports will contain fingerprints or other biometric data in addition to the digital photograph of the passport holder’s face.

In 2006, the United Kingdom embarked upon an electronic passport plan that was short-lived due to computer hacking of the passport data chip contained within the biometric passport.

Prior to the passport hacking incident, the British passport was considered one of the most secure passports in the world.  Hopefully, the Canadian e- passports will be hack-proof.

By the end of 2010, approximately ninety other countries are scheduled to adopt biometric passports.  Over 100 additional countries are scheduled to institute biometric passports by the year 2014.

In addition, the Canadian e- passports will have a longer lifetime as the time of validity will increase from 5 years to 10 years.

Passport Security Makeover in the UK!

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Passports in the UK are about to get a makeover!  The UK Passports have been redesigned in an effort to help fight identity theft and passport fraud.

Passport UK security

Enhanced passport security features include placing the passport security chip out of view as well as a personal data section of the new passport that features holograms.

The passport holder’s personal details used to be on the back of the passport and now they appear on the passport’s second page.  The passport photo of the passport holder now appears twice.  The new passports will be in circulation starting October 2010.

Cosmetic changes to the UK passport include pages that will display UK scenes such as the White Cliffs of Dover and the Giant’s Causeway.

The government expects the new passport to give UK citizens added piece of mind as well as solid protection from identity theft and passport fraud.

The main difference between the existing passports and the enhanced passports is that the security chip will now be hidden inside the passport cover.

This new feature is intended to make it more difficult to alter the chip without causing visible damage to the passport cover.

The change of adding the personal data to page 2 of the passport is an effort to speed up passenger wait times when traveling through border patrols.

This combination of physical and electronic security features will make the UK passport one of the most secure passports in the world, in line with the international passport standards.

Get a Passport in New Jersey Before the Rate Increase

Sunday, July 11th, 2010
New Jersey Passport

Now is the time to get a passport in New Jersey before the rates increase!  US Passport renewal fees and prices associated with applying for a new passport are due to rise starting Tuesday, July 13th.  Some county clerks in North Jersey have planned extended hours for passport applicants hoping to beat the deadline.

Passports for adults will increase from $75 to $110.  These increases apply to first time passport applications and renewals. Passports for children under the age of 16 will increase $20 up to $80. There will still be a $25 processing fee for new passports.

Passport renewals may be sent through the mail without a visit to the county clerk. As long as the passport applications are postmarked before Tuesday, July 13th, the $75 renewal rate will apply.

Passport services will be available at the county clerks offices in several counties around New Jersey.

Passaic County will be accepting passport applications on Monday, July 12th at the Hawthorne Municipal Building at 445 Lafayette Avenue from 5:00pm -7:00pm.

In Hudson County, the clerk will stay open until 7:00pm on Monday, July 12th to accommodate applicants for new passports. The county clerks office is located on the fourth floor at 257 Cornelison Avenue in Jersey City.

Passport for Venus?

Thursday, June 10th, 2010
Philippines Passport

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to become a Miss Universe contestant?  Besides looking great in a swimsuit, developing a solution for world peace and knowing how to tap dance, there’s something else that you’ll need…a passport

Venus Raj had to find out the hard way that it wasn’t her looks, or the inability to smile and wave simultaneously that got her dethroned as Miss Philippines, it was the fact that she didn’t have a passport.  Venus, 21 years old was dethroned as the reigning Miss Philippines after it was discovered that she did not have a valid passport.  Obtaining the passport was the condition the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI). Originally, BPCI officials discovered “inconsistencies” in her birth records and her personal testimonies that prevented her from obtaining a passport.  Venus Raj was born in Doha, Qatar, to a Filipina mother and an Indian father.  According to the Philippine Constitution, a person acquires the citizenship of his/her father or mother regardless of where he/she was born.  Just like any other applicant, her birth certificate was submitted and authenticated and her passport was processed.

After much turbulence, Venus Raj, 2010 Miss Universe beauty pageant contestant from the Philippines finally got her passport from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Consular Office in Parañaque City.

Now that Venus got her passport – can she get the crown?   We will all have to wait and see as the 59th Miss Universe beauty contest will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on August 23, 2010.

Passport Office Looks to Hire 50 New Clerks!

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010
Passport Ireland

As part of the latest deal reached between the CPSU union and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland, 50 temporary passport officers will be recruited to work in the Passport Office.  This decision was made with the hopes of resolving the backlog of more than 60,000 passport applications.

This information is an update of an earlier blog article on the Ireland Passport situation that had been posted here, at the  Rush Passport™ Blog, on May 7, 2010.  At that time, a backlog of 70,000 passports was reported.

In addition to the hiring, a new system for providing passports on a priority basis will be instituted.  Passport officials in Ireland hope that the new temporary passport officers will help to ease the peak passport season and summer passport demand.  The plan is that they will also attempt to address the passport backlog that has developed recently.

Depending on how successful the new hires are, some of them may be able to stay on permanently.  A review of passport operations will also be conducted to address future staffing requirements of the Passport Office.

The findings will be presented and recommendations will be made towards improving the passport process and significantly reducing processing times.  Passport officials remain optimistic that the backlog can be eliminated and that future improvements can be implemented.

Need to get a passport?  Need to renew a passport?  If you have any questions, feel free to call Rush Passport™ 24 hours a day / 7 days a week at Tri-State Area 212- 643-9305, Toll Free: 1-877-937-7277 or Nationwide: 1-877-937-8472.

The Passport that People are Dying to Get – Literally!

Monday, June 7th, 2010
Tombstone Passport

According to Fox News, a Delaware woman planning a trip to the island of Jamaica filled out a passport application only to find out that she was denied.  The reason that U.S. passport  authorities gave for denying her passport  application – was that she was dead!  Apparently, she wasn’t dead, but that was what U.S. passport authorities and the Social Security Administration believed.

When 49-year-old Terri Penza of Mill Creek, Delaware first heard of the passport  denial, she didn’t know what to think.  Then when she also had a credit card application turned down for being deceased, she must’ve thought she was a character in an M. Night Shyamalan film just like Bruce Willis’ character in The Sixth Sense.

Penza didn’t know what to do next.  Her trip to Jamaica was supposed to take place in just a few days, so she decided to pay a visit to the Social Security office in New Castle, Delaware.  It was there that officials confirmed that Penza had been listed as deceased dating back to 2008.

Whether it is a case of human error or identity theft, Social Security officials and Penza do not know. The agency reported that they do not track how often people are mistakenly declared dead.  I guess that whatever the statistics are, they are too high.

No word on whether Penza’s passport  application was approved or whether she received her passport  in time for her trip, but Terri Penza or anyone other ‘dead people’ who are just ‘dying’ to apply for your passport – if you are reading this blog entry, call the experts at Rush Passport™ 24 hours a day / 7 days a week at Tri-State Area 212- 643-9305, Toll Free: 1-877-937-7277 or Nationwide: 1-877-937-8472.
