Counterfeit Passport Stamps Can Get You in Big Trouble: Rush Passport NYC

Friday, August 24th, 2012

Overstaying a visa is a serious offense.  The penalties can be harsh if you are caught overstaying a visa.  A man arrived in China on a multiple entry tourist visa that would allow him to stay in China for 90 days.  After 90 days he would need to leave and would be allowed to re-enter the country with his passport.

However, it turns out that the man never actually left.  Instead he used six counterfeit passport stamps to cover up the fact that he overstayed his visa for almost a full year.  The man was caught when he tried to board a flight to Hong Kong and it was discovered that his visa contained several counterfeit passport stamps.

If he had exited and re-entered the country as he was supposed to, then there would not have been a need to fake the passport stamps.  Counterfeit passport stamps can result in fines and arrest.  As it turns out, the man received a fine after it was determined that his actions didn’t produce any serious consequences.  Altering a US passport is a federal offense.

When it comes to passports and visas it is best to do everything by the book.  It doesn’t pay to try to commit passport fraud because eventually it will catch up with you.  In the United States, passport fraud is a serious offense and can result in jail time.

Passport Blog: Record Number of Americans Are Passport Holders : Rush Passport NYC

Monday, January 30th, 2012

get a passportThe number of Americans passport holders is growing.  This shouldn’t sound too strange because the US population is also growing.  However, a greater percentage of Americans have their passports than ever before.  More than 33% of Americans, approximately 110 million out of 313 million Americans have passports.  In the year 2000, there were less than 50 million Americans with passports.  In 1989, just 7 million Americans held passports.  In 1989, less than 3 percent of Americans had passports.  Today, less than 25 years later the percentage of Americans with passports has grown more than 30%.  What is the reason for this phenomenon?

For starters, Americans have a very large country in comparison to their European counterparts.  Larger territory means more areas to visit within the country.  This eliminates the need for a passport.  For the most part in the early 1990′s Americans felt that there was plenty to see here in the United States.  In addition, passports were not needed to travel to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico or Canada back then.

Americans used to be able to cross borders into Mexico and Canada without a passport.  Now with passports required for travel, many Americans have gotten their passports.  Still, two thirds of Americans do not have passports.

In 2007 the US Department of State set the record with over 18 million passport issued.  Experts agree that the increase in passports is primarily linked to citizens who needed passports for travel to Mexico and Canada.

Business travelers also account for the increase in passport issued in this country.  Companies seeking for new methods to increase revenue look to foreign countries.  This creates a need for employees to get passports for business travel.

If you still haven’t gotten your passport, what are you waiting for?

Rush Passport: Celebrity Passport Applications Revealed: Celebrity Passport Summary

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Passport ApplicationThanks to the Freedom of Information Act, the Department of State has given the public access to thousands of celebrity passport applications.

In case you missed the last 6 Rush Passport™ passport blog entries we highlighted the passport applications of 6 of the 20th Centuries most famous Americans.  Some of the passport applications had passport photos and some did not.  However, the passport applications were filled with plenty of facts about the celebrity passport applicants.

Bet you didn’t know that Yankee slugger Babe Ruth got his passport to play baseball in Havana, Cuba.  Did you know that Marilyn Monroe’s passport application listed her as Marilyn Monroe – not Norma Jean?  Ernest Hemingway’s passport is one of the most well traveled passports around.  In 1957, Judy Garland’s passport was only valid for travel to and in Bulgaria.  Jesse Owens filled out his passport application on July 1, 1936 – just weeks before he won 4 gold medals in the Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany.  Ironically, in 1944 Humphrey Bogart’s passport only allowed him to travel to North Africa where he filmed Casablanca two years earlier.

We hope that you enjoyed Rush Passport™’s celebrity passport applications.  If you are interested in seeing some of your favorite celebrity passport applications, you can contact the US Department of State through the Freedom of Information Act.  Or, you can access passport applications issued between 1795-1925 on the web at Ancestry.com’s passport application database
