Passports can be confiscated from passport holders if they are considered to be a risk to leave the country. Such is the case for USA cricket team captain, Steve Massiah. Massiah’s passport was confiscated by the US and his travel is restricted to New York following his November 22nd arrest for falsifying mortgage loan applications.
Massiah, the USA team captain, is not only without a passport, but he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. While Massiah is confined to New York, he was given permission to travel to Florida for the US Cricket Open. Obviously he didn’t need his passport as he did not travel internationally from New York to Florida.
It is unlikely that Massiah will be participating for the New York Region in the USACA Twenty20 Nationals scheduled from January 20 to 22 in Florida. It is in that tournament where the USA squad will be selected for the ICC World Tournament. Without a passport, Massiah will not be of much use to the US Team.
It is alleged that Massiah and two others planned to participate in a scheme to defraud Countrywide Home Loans by obtaining funds under fraudulent pretenses.
While it is a right for US citizens to obtain passports, it is also a privilege to hold a valid US passport. Passport privileges can be revoked on a case by case basis.

In a recent Forbes magazine article, Singapore’s Changi International Airport was named the “world’s best airport.” Do you think it’s time to dust that passport off and travel to Singapore? If you’re not convinced that its time to grab your passport and hop on the next flight out of JFK, maybe once you hear about the rooftop hot tub, movie theater or tropical butterfly garden, you may just change your mind.
It’s not just the frills that makes this airport tops, but the airport’s best feature may just be its high level security, customs, and immigration.
If you’re still not convinced that you should get your passport ready for travel, you may be after you find out about the amusement park slide, variety of shopping or soothing airport music.
There is an overall feeling of politeness as the customs agent is described as taking a traveler’s passport and offering him candy. The security check point officer was described as being polite as he apologized for the inconvenience of asking the traveler to remove his coat and then placed it delicately into the scanning tray.
Once you show your passport, you should expect quick moving lines. There are employees on hand to ask travelers for comments about the airport experience and one such employee is quoted in the article as referring to the fact that “…the airport is the first and last taste people have of our country, and we want it to be a pleasant one.”
In general, the experience at JFK airport is nothing like this and the thought of having to go through customs with your passport can be compared to a visit to the dentist’s office.
From the perspective of tourism, Singapore gets it. It seems that US airports can learn a thing or two about want people to enjoy coming back to America and spend more money on American tourism.
The author feels that when it comes to improving the NYC airport experience, it seems that a good place to start would be with some simple smiles and common courtesy.
So, if you still don’t have your passport, what are you waiting for?

The focus of today’s Rush Passport™ blog is a passport article in which 7 On Your Side helped out a Greenville County, South Carolina woman. According to the passport article, Ruth Jackson who was born in the United States needs a passport to travel to the island of Jamaica this month. Back in April, Jackson’s daughter Lisa Owens applied for her mom’s passport and the passport has not yet been received. According to Owens, the US Department of State would not accept her mother’s delayed birth certificate. In addition to this issue, Jackson’s baptismal records were not kept of file at her church. Also, Jackson’s school records were destroyed in a fire as confirmed by a letter produced by Byrnes High School. To top everything off, her marriage certificate only lists her age at the time of marriage and doesn’t list her date of birth.
When Jackson ran into these issues getting her passport, she gave up and was ready to cancel her trip. Owens tried to help her mom get her passport and contacted 7 On Your Side. In turn, 7 On Your Side contacted the U.S. Postal Service, the Department of State and Congressman Trey Gowdy’s office.
Finally, after several weeks of work between all of the agencies, Jackson is getting two pieces of documentation that should help her get her passport. The two final pieces that will help Jackson get a passport are a 10 year driving history and an affidavit signed by her brother and sister proving that she was born in the United States.

It seems that people are obsessed with celebrities. Celebrity passports are no exception. A US Department of State passport agency employee who worked at the San Francisco passport office was charged with 3 counts of exceeding authorized computer access.
The 24 year passport agency employee, Richard G. Macias retired in May. However, records show that before retirement peeked at sometimes printed out passport applications of more than 100 celebrities.
Records show that between 2003 and 2009, Macias improperly logged on to the State Department’s passport records system 168 times. During these unauthorized logins he viewed the passport applications of actors, models and musicians. In 88 of those occasions when Macias viewed the celebrity passport applications, he printed them.
While there are no records of Macias selling these print outs to 3rd parties, it is still illegal for a passport employee to even look at unauthorized records – let alone print them out.

How Long Does it Take to Get a US Passport?
US Passport season is among us. Don’t get left out when it comes to getting your passport. People have questions about getting a passport. The most popular question is: How long does it take to get a passport? The answer to this question of “How long it will takes to get a passport” depends on several variables. The time that it takes to obtain a US passport depends on among other things the time of year that the passport application is submitted, the location in which the passport application is submitted and whether passport expediting services are selected. The optimum time of year to apply for a US passport is when the smallest number of passports are being processed. Because the summer months are considered “passport season” people show also expect a longer wait than usual to receive their passports. But, it is important to keep in mind that when applying for a US passport through Rush Passport™, Official US Passport Expeditors, you can get a US passport within 24 hours. At times we may be able to get your passport for you on the same day – even when the passport application is submitted during busiest passport season.
Another important factor that determines how long it will take to get a passport is the location in which the passport application is submitted. If you apply for a US passport through the United States Postal Service, during the busiest passport season, it can take up to 3 months for your passport application to be processed and for the passport applicant to receive a US passport. A passport applicant who applies directly through the US Department of State, may also have to wait 4-6 weeks or longer. But, if a passport applicant needs a US passport quickly, the passport applicant should make the passport application through Rush Passport™, Official US Passport Expeditors. With Rush Passport™, passport applicants can get a US passport within 24 hours – even during the busiest time of year. Sometimes we can even get you a passport on the same day.

Passport security is at the forefront of a new initiative set forth by Interpol. Commercial airlines across the globe are being urged by Interpol to put into effect a passport database that will identify travelers attempting to use fraudulent or stolen passports.
The passport database would work well to prevent passengers from using stolen or fraudulent passports, but airlines are not willing to release passenger information. Interpol asserts that this must be done to prevent terrorist attacks.
Currently, hundreds of thousands of passengers are able to travel internationally with their passports going unchecked.
A passport database would greatly help to prevent terrorism. The passport database would integrate passport data from all over the world. The passport database would keep track of stolen passports and check passports of potential airline passengers.
While airlines are not all on board with the passport database, El Al Israel Airlines president Elyezer Shkedy supports Interpol’s passport database proposal.
Let’s hope that the airlines come together and the passport database becomes a reality in the near future.
