My US passport is damaged. Can I renew my passport by mail or do I have to renew my passport in person?
No, a US passport that is damaged is not eligible for passport renewal by mail. The passport must be undamaged in order for the passport to be renewed by mail. Damaged passports must be renewed in person.
My child passport is already expired or is about to expire soon. Can I renew my passport by mail or do I have to renew my passport in person?
No, a child passport may not be renewed by mail. In order to renew your passport by mail, the passport had to have been issued to a person 16 years of age and up. In this case, the passport must be renewed in person.
My passport was issued over 15 years ago. Can I renew my passport by mail or do I have to renew my passport in person?
No, a passport is eligible to be renewed by mail if it was issued within the last 15 years. Passports issued over 15 years ago must be renewed in person.
My name was changed, but my passport was issued in my previous name. Can I renew my passport by mail or do I have to renew my passport in person?
No, you can only renew a passport by mail if the expired passport was issued in your current name. You will need to be able to legally document the name change in order to renew your passport by mail. In this case, the passport renewal must take place in person.

If your current US passport has been mutilated or damaged, then you must apply for a replacement passport in person.
Passport renewals that are done by mail in the US, may only be sent to addresses in the US and Canada.
Passport renewal may be denied if you are delinquent in child support payments.
