Passport Lost? Passport Stolen? Contact Rush Passport NYC (212) 643-9305

passport lostDo you know where your passport is?  Have you ever lost your passport?  If you’ve lost your passport before, you’re not the only one.  The difference between you and celebrities is that when you lose your passport, it doesn’t get reported in the media.  But, when celebrities lose their passports the media has a field day.  The latest celebrity to lose their US passport gives new meaning to the words “One Direction”.  If you are only able to use your passport to travel to a foreign country, but then lose your US passport and can’t fly back home, then you were only able to travel in one direction.  Well, Harry Styles of the hit band “One Direction” missed his flight from London to the United States because he forgot his passport at home.

The One Direction singer who is dating Taylor Swift must’ve been quite embarrassed upon missing his flight from Heathrow to Boston because he didn’t have his passport with him.

To correct the passport mishap, the eighteen year old pop star had a courier pick up the passport from his home and deliver it to him at the airport.

Even though he did lose his passport, Harry did make it to the US in time to ring in the New Year with his girlfriend Taylor Swift, who was performing at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in New York’s Times Square.

new york passport agencyDo you live in New York City?  If you were born and raised in New York City, then there is one thing that you’ll never experience – being a tourist in New York City.  Tourists from around the world use their passports to travel to New York City, the Capital of the World.

Even as a New Yorker, there are still many places on the planet that would be wonderful to visit as a tourist.  Why not get out and see some of the world’s other big cities or better yet, check out some places that are nothing like New York.

Getting a passport is the first step in seeing the world.  The next step is buying the plane ticket.  However, sometimes people get these steps mixed up and buy the plane tickets first and try to get the passport later.

This can present a problem if you don’t get your passport in time.  Others have the passport, buy the plane tickets and then find out that the passport is expired – or worse than that missing.

If you need a new passport, if your passport is expired or missing and you need a passport renewal, you can wait 6-8 weeks for the US Department of State to get you your passport.  Or you can contact Rush Passport™ Official US Passport Expeditors and get your passport today.  Our New York City passport office is located in the heart of Manhattan at 875 6th Avenue, Suite #1606, New York, NY 10001.

Passports for Pets? NYC Passport Blog: Rush Passport NY

Thursday, August 16th, 2012

passport nycDo you have a passport?  What about a passport for your pets?  Don’t laugh.  Malaysia is considering making it compulsory for owners of pets to have a
passport for their pets.  Passports for pets is not such a crazy idea as the passports could assist in the prevention of the spread of viral
diseases.  Pet passports could also help track down missing pets.

The World Organisation for Animal Health may have something to add to the pet passport initiative at their next conference.

The pet passport program would be voluntary at first and then could eventually become mandatory.  Passports for pets is something that would require cooperation from countries across the globe if it were to carry any weight.

Currently there is no US passport for pets, but if the Malaysian pet passports take off, then we may soon see pet passports in the United States.  Imagine what the pet passport application would look like.  Would the pet’s paw print be a part of the passport?  There would have to be some sort of fee associated with the pet passport and don’t forget about the pet passport photos.   It is doubtful that pet passports will come to the US anytime soon, but we will keep you posted on any new developments.

Facebook Co-Founder Passport Turned In: Rush Passport NYC

Friday, May 18th, 2012

passport nycIn a previous Rush Passport blog article, it was mentioned that Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin turned in his US passport and renounced his US citizenship in a move to avoid paying hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes.  Should there be a penalty for US citizens who surrender their passports to avoid paying taxes?

Now, it seems that two US Senators, Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.) have proposed legislation called the Ex-PATRIOT Act.  The proposed legislation would compel anyone who “expatriates for a substantial tax purpose — as judged by the Internal Revenue Service” would be penalized with a mandatory 30% tax on future capital gains. In addition, the ex-citizens would not be allowed to re-enter the United States.

Senator Schumer commented “Eduardo Saverin wants to defriend the United States of America just to avoid paying taxes. We aren’t going to let him get away with it.”

If you think about it, Schumer makes a good point.  Schumer blasted Saverin for turning “his back on the country that welcomed him and kept him safe, educated him and helped him become a billionaire.”

It is estimated that the biggest advantage for Saverin is that, if the price of Facebook stock rises, any future capital gains will not be taxed, because Singapore does not tax capital gains.

In 1996 a law was put into effect that disallows visas to former citizens who renounced their citizenship to avoid taxation in the United States.

According to his Saverin’s lawyer, Saverin surrendered his US passport and renounced his citizenship in September of 2011.

Saverin is quoted in his reply “My decision to expatriate was based solely on my interest in working and living in Singapore, where I have been since 2009. I am obligated to and will pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes to the United States government. I have paid and will continue to pay any taxes due on everything I earned while a U.S. citizen. It is unfortunate that my personal choice has led to a public debate, based not on the facts, but entirely on speculation and misinformation.”

The trend of US citizens surrendering their passports to avoid paying taxes is growing.

Get a Passport Fast: Rush Passport NYC

passport nycPassport fraud is a serious problem in the United States.  Many people try to get into the US illegally and some people make it.  Generally, people convicted of passport fraud get deported.  Ten years ago, Jacqueline Brown was convicted of passport fraud and she was scheduled to be deported back to Jamaica.  However, Ms. Brown was able to stay in the United States under various aliases.

Ms. Brown recently had her cover blown while working as a teacher’s assistant in a school in Connecticut under the name “Ann Scott”.   Ms. Brown is in now in federal custody awaiting deportation for passport fraud.

Getting a valid US passport is a privilege that US citizens can take advantage of.  However, approximately two-thirds of Americans don’t own passports.

A passport can open up many doors in a person’s life.  Traveling to a foreign country is something that everyone should experience.  It is most likely true that children whose parents have passports are more likely to get passports themselves.

Parents should get adult passports for themselves and child passports for their children and take a family vacation to a foreign country to widen their horizons.  While there are plenty of attractions in the US that don’t require a passport to visit, one’s options should be open to many possibilities.  Passports make those opportunities possible.

Passport Fee Increases: Rush Passport NYC

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

Do you know how much US citizenship is worth?  While priceless to some, there are some US citizens who would like to renounce their US citizenship.  The cost is $450.

Recently, new consular fees were published in the Federal Register.  One of the fees that went up was the fee for processing the formal renunciation of US citizenship.  Prior to the new fees, there was no cost affiliated with renouncing one’s US citizenship.  Now, the fee is $450.

There is no cost for US citizenship when it comes to people born in the United States.  However to renounce the citizenship, the price is $450.

In addition to the fee increase for renouncing one’s US citizenship, the passport application fee is also going to increase.

The cost of a passport application is increasing from $55 to $70 with an increase of $20 to $40 for a passport security surcharge.

There is also an increase to adding new passport pages.  It used to be free to add more pages to your passport.  Now, the US Department of State will now charge $82.  The cost is supposed to be to offset the time that it takes time to print and affix the additional pages into the passport book, passport endorsement and quality control.

The cost to register the overseas birth of an American child is going up from $65 to $100.

In addition, the cost of getting a document notarized at a US embassy abroad is also set to increase.  In the past, the fee was $30 per page and it will go up to $50 per page.

If you need more pages in your passport, a visa, an expedited passport, emergency passport, passport renewal, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. How to Get a US Passport in New York: Rush Passport

Monday, December 12th, 2011

How do you get a US passport in New York?  Passport applicants who wish to get a passport for the first time need to appear in person. In order to get a passport, passport applicants must satisfy all of the passport requirements.  First time passport applicants need to produce original or certified copies of their birth certificates.  A previous US passport is also acceptable.  When it comes to children 15 years of age or younger who wish to get a US passport, an original or certified birth certificate that indicates the full names of both parents must be submitted.

What are the requirements for US passport renewal?  Passport renewal is easier than applying for a first time passport.  Passport renewal applicants need to submit the expired passport.  Passport applicants from ages 16 to 18 years of age may appear with only one parent.  If the passport applicant has a valid, permanent driver’s license, then parental consent is unnecessary.  Children ages 15 and under need to have both parents in attendance at the time that the passport application is completed.  If only one parent is available, proof that indicates that the applying parent has consent to apply for the passport must be submitted.

What are the acceptable forms of identification when applying for a US passport?  Examples of proper identification to get a valid US passport include driver’s license, government employee identification card or previous US passport that is less than 15 years old.  All passport applicants need to have a social security number.  If the passport applicant does not have valid identification, then an identifying witness who has known the passport applicant for at least two years must accompany the applicant.

What are the rules regarding passport photos Passport applicants need to bring two identical photographs measuring 2” by 2”.  The background must be light, with a full frontal face shot and matte finish.

What fees are involved in getting a passport?  Passport fees for adults are currently $110 for adults.  This does not include the fees for expedited passports.  Passport fees are $80 for children age 15 and younger (passport expediting fees not included).  Checks or US postal money orders are the only acceptable forms of payment to the US Department of State.

If you are a US citizen and interested in getting a US passport, contact Rush Passport™.
