Do You Know the Difference Between a US Passport Booklet and a US Passport Card? Rush Passport NYC

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

rush-passport-surrenderDo you know the difference between a passport booklet and a passport card?

US Passport Booklets

A U.S. Passport is a very important travel document.  The passport booklet is necessary to travel to countries outside the US. The US passports comes in the form of a small 32 page booklet. The US passport is also available in a 52 page version.  The US passport serves many functions.  The most obvious function is to make it possible to for Americans to travel abroad. US Passports don’t automatically grant American citizens entry into any country, but with a U.S. Passport a person is able to travel to many countries without requiring further documentation. A US passport can also be used to act as proof of citizenship.  US passport holders are recognized internationally as United States citizens.

Adult U.S. passports are for US citizens age 16 years or older.  Adult US passports are valid for a period of 10 years.  US child passports are available for children under the age of 16 and are valid for a period of five years.   US passport booklets can be used for air, land or sea travel.

US Passport Cards

US Passport cards are an alternate form of a U.S. Passport.  The US Passport card was introduced in July of 2008. Passport cards are walled sized.  US passport card are very similar to a standard driver’s license or state ID card.  US passport cards are travel documents that can be used to travel from the US to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea. US Passport cards are not valid for those traveling by air. Passport Cards offer a more convenient alternative to traditional US Passport booklets for American citizens that near the US border with Mexico or Canada.

US Passport cards cannot be used for air travel or for international travel with the exceptions of Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.
