A recent Rush Passport™ blog entry spoke about US citizens who owe millions of dollars in back taxes to the IRS and their passports are still valid. Many US Citizens feel that anyone who owes money to the IRS should not be issued valid passports until their balances are cleared. Other US citizens feel that the US Department of State should not interfere with the right for a citizen to get a passport regardless of whether or not they owe money to the IRS.
As this debate rolls along, it seems that the US is not the only country that has troubles with people who owes millions in back taxes and can still apply for, receive and new passport.
In New Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh has admitted that he had recommended that Hasan Ali Khan’s passport be expedited on humanitarian grounds. Even though Khan faces charges of tax evasion and money laundering, Singh reportedly used his policital power to order Khan’s passport applicantion to be expedited even though Khan owes the government millions of dollars.
It seems that this passport problem is a global one. Citizens want to have the privilege of owning a passport, regardless of whether or not they owe back taxes. Proponents feel that this withholding a person’s passport based on money owed may provide another economic stimulus to the company.

Yahoo! Answers specializes in having regular people ask questions in the hopes that other regular people will be able to answer them. Some of the questions are silly and others are serious. A recent visit to the site uncovered several questions regarding passports. Among the questions regarding passports involved a woman getting married this year and wanted to know if she can travel using her married name although her maiden name in on her passport. Another person wondered if a driver’s permit is an acceptable form of proof to get a passport. Yet another person wanted to know the process for getting a child passport in India.
The passport process can be confusing. There are many questions that can come up regarding passport regulations and passport usage.
Another person wants to know if it is possible to change a passport before it expires. An individual who recently lost a lot of weight is concerned that he doesn’t look like the person in his passport photo and wonders if he will be required to get a new passport in order to travel without being detained. Many other questions arise about changing a surname on a passport, adding passport pages, taking passport photos, passport renewal and a slew of other passport based inquiries. If you have any passport questions, we recommend you speak with a passport specialist. Our passport agents can help answer your questions and also help you get a same day passport.
If you need an expedited passport, emergency passport, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. It seems that the government shutdown was averted – at least for now. Passport Day in the USA went off without a hitch as plenty of US citizens successfully applied for their passports. Citizens looking to apply for a passport were unsure if Passport Day in the USA was even going to happen. The government shutdown would have affected many government agencies including the US Department of State which handles passport applications. The shutdown would have meant that Passport Day in the USA would have been cancelled. That would’ve meant that people who had been planning to take advantage of passport services would have had to make alternate plans.
So, US citizens looking to get a new passport, renew an existing passport, replace a lost passport or add passport pages were all able to do so on Saturday April 9th . Passport Day in the USA was started two years ago to assist people who had a hard time getting to the passport agency during the week. However, if you are in need of a passport and you missed Passport Day in the USA, don’t worry. Rush Passport™ offers their own version of Passport Day in the USA as they are open for business each and every Saturday. That’s right, Rush Passport™ offers passport services every Saturday throughout the year.
If you need an expedited passport, emergency passport, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. You can visit us at http://www.rushpassport.com or call us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to speak with a Live Passport Agent. Passports will be falling from the sky on Saturday, April 9th. Well, not exactly – but the US Department of State has announced the 3rd Annual “Passport Day in the USA.” Event. Passport Day in the USA is a time for US citizens across the country to apply for a US passport book or US passport card. The April 9th passport event comes just in time for travelers to get their passports in time for summer.
The passport event is aimed at promoting the importance of getting a passport. Currently just 30% of US citizens hold valid passports. Passport Day in the USA is aimed at the other 70% who do not yet have a passport book or passport card.
It is important to remember that adult passports are valid for 10 years and child passports for minors under 16 years old are valid for a period of 5 years. When applying for a child passport, both parents and the child need to appear in person. If one parent is not able to appear, then that parent must submit a notarized “Minor Consent” form along with the passport application.
So, if you still don’t have your passport, if your passport is expired or if your passport was lost or stolen, now is the perfect time to come out and take care of all of your passport needs.
If you need an expedited passport, emergency passport, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. Passport applications require birth certificates to be submitted as proof of identification. However, not all birth certificates are issued with the parents’ names. It may seem a little strange, but it is true that some birth certificates do not have parents’ names.
As a matter of fact, many Pennsylvania birth certificates do not have this information. The US Department of State, in an attempt to make the US passport more secure, has declared that all US birth certificates submitted with passport applications must contain parents’ names. This new passport policy is effective as of April 1st, 2011. However, it is important to note that there is a 30-day grace period in which passport applications that do not contain parents’ names can still be submitted.
As of May 1st, 2011 all passport application must be accompanied by birth certificates that show both parents’ names.
As a result of this new initiative, passports that are issued will be more secure. The Department of State is dedicated to making the US passport the most secure passport in the world. This initiative is a welcomed addition to the passport application with regard to passport security.
In an effort to make passports more secure, the following information needs to be present on all birth certificates:
Full name of the passport applicant
Passport applicant’s date of birth
Passport applicant’s place of birth
Raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal of issuing authority
Registrar’s signature
The date the certificate was filed with the registrar’s office (must be within one year)
For more information, see 22 CFR 51.42(a).
To obtain a new birth certificate, see the CDC.

I need to renew my passport. Will I get my original passport back?
If you need to renew your passport, you must include your current passport with the passport renewal application. In most cases, the State Department will return the original passport. But, if a passport is damaged, then the State Department will probably destroy the old passport rather than return it.
I already submitted my passport application to the US Postal Service, but now it is taking too long to receive it. Can Rush Passport™ help me get my passport quicker?
If you have already submitted your passport to the USPS then we will not be able to expedite your passport. To find out the status of your passport, you can try contacting The National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.
My child needs a child passport. My child is too young to sign the passport application. Should I sign the passport application?
When filling out a passport application for a child who cannot write his/her name, the adult should write the child’s name, but sign their own name.
What is the ‘Letter of Authorization’ as it applies to the passport application process?
The Letter of Authorization is a document that allows Rush Passport™ to apply for a passport on your behalf.
The passport application process can seem like a daunting task for passport applicants who are applying for a first time passport. But, at Rush Passport™, we can make it easy to get a US passport.
The first step in getting a passport is to complete the passport application. You can get the passport application by clicking here: New US Passport Application
It is essential to remember to sign the passport application once it is submitted in person.
Another thing that you will need is two passport photos. The passport photos must be in accordance with the passport guidelines. Passport photos need to present the subject framed with full face, frontal view, and open eyes.
The passport photo needs to feature full head from top of head to bottom of the chin. The face should be centered inside of the passport photo. The subject should be photographed against a plain white background with no distracting shadows on subject’s face. The person should display a natural expression to ensure that the passport photos will be accepted. The passport photos will then be submitted at the passport agency along with the passport application.
Rush Passport™ , passport expeditors, accepts US passport applications at our New York City passport agency. Be sure to have your 2 passport photos, your unsigned passport application, proof of U.S. citizenship, valid identification, and the accompanying passport fees. If you do not have your passport photos, don’t worry – we can take the passport photos at our passport expediting office.
Currently, the US State Department is processing passports from between 4-6 weeks, However, if you need to travel within the next two weeks, that’s not good enough. Rush Passport™ can help. At Rush Passport™ we can help you get your passport in the same day. Our passport expediting service is the quickest and most reliable method when you need to get your US passport in a hurry.
You may apply for a US passport booklet or a US passport card. It is also possible to apply for both the US passport booklet and the US passport card simultaneously. It is important to understand that while a US passport card is less expensive than a US passport booklet, it is not as widely accepted as a US passport booklet.
According to the US State Department, a US passport card is valid only for entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land border crossings or sea ports of entry. A US passport booklet is more widely accepted all over the world for all ports of entry including airports.

8 Steps to Getting a US Passport for a Baby
First off, it is important to understand that all international travelers are required to present a passport regardless of age. In order to get a passport for a baby, both parents / legal guardians are required to be present at the time of the passport application.
Step 1
First it is important to gather the documents that you will need to prove the baby’s U.S. citizenship. Primary documents only are accepted. Examples of primary documents include a certified birth certificate, consular report of birth abroad, or foreign birth certificate. Essentially, it is important to gather additional documents that establish a parental relationship for both parents to the child. It is important to choose documents that list the names of both parents, such as a birth certificate.
Step 2
Parents must also have official proof of identification. Parents can use an undamaged, US passport, valid driver’s license, naturalization certificate or military ID. It is important for parents to also have their social security numbers. Parents should make copies of these documents on standard white, 8 ½ by 11 inch paper.
Step 3
Get and fill out the baby’s passport application. The form to use is Form DS-11: Application for a U.S. Passport. The passport application, Form DS-11 may be completed online or printed out and completed in black ink. It is important not to sign the printed DS-11. The passport application must be signed in the presence of a passport agent at the Passport Acceptance Facility.
Step 5
Take two passport photos of the child. The passport photos must be identical and they must be color photos that are exactly 2 inches by 2 inches. The baby’s head must be uncovered.
Step 6
Prepare to have the passport fee available. Pay for the passport application using credit card, check or money orders. Checks must be made payable to “Department of State.”
Step 7
Take the completed passport application, necessary documentation, passport photos and payment to Passport Acceptance Facility.
Step 8
Allow 4-6 for passport processing.

A Columbus Ohio man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempting to get a fake passport to travel to Pakistan and for keeping an arsenal of assault weapons and pipe bombs. The man, Abdullah Muslim, formally known as Johnnie Clagg converted to Islam while spending time in prison.
According to prosecutors in the case, Muslim stole personal information from people and then attempted to use the information to get a passport. Once he got the passport, he planned to leave the country to visit Pakistan.
Muslim was wanted on charges of identity theft and attempting to falsify a passport. Police stopped his vehicle in Columbus, Ohio back in October of 2009. After his arrest, federal agents found an arsenal of weapons including two AK 47s, a 9mm semiautomatic rifle and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, pipe bomb materials, a ballistic face mask and vest, and a flak jacket.
It is unknown if Muslim has ties to any terror organizations or if he was acting alone. If he hadn’t been caught for trying to get a falsified passport, one can only speculate as to the damage that he could have done.
It is important for people to keep forms of personal identification safe. If you suspect that your passport is missing or stolen, you should report it immediately.
