If you would like to obtain a passport for the first time, it’s not a problem at Rush Passport™’s New York City passport agency located in the heart of Manhattan. Be sure that you have two photographs of yourself.  If not, we provide passport photo services on the premises.

To get a passport you will need proof of U.S. citizenship.  You will need to show a valid form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license.   Passport Acceptance facilities require valid indentification.

There are times that you will need to apply for a passport and times that you may do so through the mail.  If you are applying for a first time US passport, you will need to appear in person.  If your US passport is expired and you do not have the passport, you will also need to apply in person.  If your previous US passport has expired and was issued more than 15 years ago you will also need to apply in person.  If your previous US passport was issued when you were under the age of 16 years old, you will need to appear in person.  If your US passport has been lost or stolen, you will also need to apply in person.

US Passport Renewal

You may renew your US passport by mail if you have your current passport and it is not damaged.  You can also apply by mail if you received the passport within the past 15 years.  If you were over the age of 16 years of age when the passport was issued and you still have the same name, or can legally document your name change, you can also apply by mail.  It is important to keep in mind that if your passport has been, altered or damaged, you will not be able to apply by mail.

Passport Acceptance Facilities Closing Across the US: Rush Passport Is OPEN for Business in New York City!

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

US passportThe US State Department is doing is best to prevent passport fraud.  As a result, some passport acceptance facilities across the country will be closing.  Passport security is a very important area for the State Department to concentrate on.  In addition to passport offices and post offices, certain cities and towns have recorder’s offices that may also accept passport applications.

However, in 2003 the US State Department, in an effort to maximize passport security stopped opening new facilities that could issue both birth certificates and passports.  The Hancock County Recorder’s Office in Iowa is one such example of an agency that issues birth certificates and passports.  In 2010, the US State Department announced that any existing offices that issue both birth certificates and passports would no longer be able to issue passports.

As a result, the Hancock County Recorder’s Office will no longer be able to issue passports.  The last day that the office can act as a passport facility is Friday, April 29, 2011.  The workers at the Hancock County Recorder’s Office feel that they should be able to continue issuing passports because there has never been an incident of passport fraud coming from their office.  They have received passport training and feel that it is a service to the community to offer passport services.

The US Department of State feels that although there may have not been instances of passport fraud coming from the Hancock Recorder’s Office, they must adhere to the new regulations in the interest of passport security.
