Getting a Passport in New York City
New York City may just be the busiest city in the world. The hustle and bustle of New York City can be intoxicating. There are times that you need to get something quickly and one of those times is when your passport is lost, your passport was stolen or you find yourself in another passport emergency. Don’t panic! To get a passport you will need proof of U.S. citizenship. You will need to show a valid form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license. Passport Acceptance facilities require valid indentification.
There are times that you will need to apply for a passport and times that you may do so through the mail. If you are applying for a first time US passport, you will need to appear in person. If your US passport is expired and you do not have the passport, you will also need to apply in person. If your previous US passport has expired and was issued more than 15 years ago you will also need to apply in person. If your previous US passport was issued when you were under the age of 16 years old, you will need to appear in person. If your US passport has been lost or stolen, you will also need to apply in person.
US Passport Renewal
You may renew your US passport by mail if you have your current passport and it is not damaged. You can also apply by mail if you received the passport within the past 15 years. If you were over the age of 16 years of age when the passport was issued and you still have the same name, or can legally document your name change, you can also apply by mail. It is important to keep in mind that if your passport has been, altered or damaged, you will not be able to apply by mail.
