Passports
US Passports are travel documents that allow you to exit and re-enter the United States. US Passports come in the form of a small booklet. Passports have multiple functions. Not only do passports allow people to travel outside of their home country, but passports have additional uses. Is it important to note that US passports do not automatically grant passport holders permission to enter any country. US passport holders are able to visit many countries without having to get additional documentation. In addition, passports serve as proof of citizenship. US passports holders are internationally recognized as citizens of the United States of America.
What are passport cards?
In July 2008, passport cards became available to US citizens. Passport cards are wallet-sized travel documents that are used to travel from the US to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea. It is important to note that US passport cards are not valid for air travel. US Passport cards offer US citizens who live close to the US border with Mexico or Canada an alternative method to show proof of citizenship. Passport cards offer convenience to those who frequently travel to and from Canada or Mexico from the United States by land or sea. US passport cards cannot be used for travel to destinations other than Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean. That means that US passport cards are not eligible for use for international air travel.
For how long are US passports valid?
The length of time that US passports are valid depends upon the passport holder’s age. Adult US passports for individuals 16 years of age and older are valid for 10 years. Child passports for children ages 15 years and under are valid for 5 years.

A recent Rush Passport™ blog entry spoke about US citizens who owe millions of dollars in back taxes to the IRS and their passports are still valid. Many US Citizens feel that anyone who owes money to the IRS should not be issued valid passports until their balances are cleared. Other US citizens feel that the US Department of State should not interfere with the right for a citizen to get a passport regardless of whether or not they owe money to the IRS.
As this debate rolls along, it seems that the US is not the only country that has troubles with people who owes millions in back taxes and can still apply for, receive and new passport.
In New Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh has admitted that he had recommended that Hasan Ali Khan’s passport be expedited on humanitarian grounds. Even though Khan faces charges of tax evasion and money laundering, Singh reportedly used his policital power to order Khan’s passport applicantion to be expedited even though Khan owes the government millions of dollars.
It seems that this passport problem is a global one. Citizens want to have the privilege of owning a passport, regardless of whether or not they owe back taxes. Proponents feel that this withholding a person’s passport based on money owed may provide another economic stimulus to the company.

Celebrity passports are a big deal to some people. Would you be able to work for the US Department of State without taking a peek at some celebrity passports? It seems that a few ‘bad apples’ have given the US Dept of State a bad name. Of the thousands of employees that have access to the celebrity passport files, over the years 12 current or former employees have pled guilty to accessing celebrity passports.

Albert Einstein's Passport
It seems that the passport office employees who were caught snooping at the passport applications and passport photos did so out of boredom or plain curiosity.
Mark Carter, 51, of Brooklyn, NY is the latest passport employee to plead guilty to looking at the confidential passport files of 60 celebrities including athletes, politicians, musicians, actors and others.
The Passport Information Electronic Records System (PIERS) contains all imaged passport applications dating back to 1994.
Included in the PIERS database are passport photos, and personal information including applicant full name, birthdate, place of birth, address, telephone numbers and more.
The Privacy Act of 1974 protects this information as it is strictly limited to official government duties.
In March 2008, Dept of State passport employees were part of a scandal in which Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s passports were viewed for unauthorized purposes.
At Rush Passport™, all of your passport information is kept 100% confidential.

Expired passport? Lost passport? You’re not alone. According to a UK passport study, it turns out that 1 out of 10 British travelers have previously planned or attempted to travel abroad with an expired passport. Incidentally, if your passport is expired, then you will be considered ineligible to travel abroad.
An expired passport can ruin a vacation, can be a disaster to a business trip and can prevent travel abroad. However, in a passport emergency, it is still possible to get a passport – even on the same day. Passport expediting services are available to travelers who have lost their passports, had their passports stolen, have expired passports and a host of other reasons. The UK study also shows that 24% of UK passport holders thought you could travel using your passport right up until the date which it expires. This, by the way, is not always the case as tourists often need up to 6 months remaining on their passports when traveling to some destinations.
The UK passport survey also discovered that almost 10% of UK travelers had their travel plans affected by an expired passport. Believe it or not, 13% of UK passport holders thought that they didn’t need a passport to travel within Europe. 3% of UK passport holders actually thought that a passport was not necessary to travel to the United States.

Have you ever thought about traveling abroad? Are you already a world traveler? Do you have a US passport? If you have a US passport, you are one of the 30% of Americans who has a valid passport. If you do not have a passport, you are among the 70% of Americans who do not have a passport.
That’s right, just 30% of American citizens actually have a passport. These statistics seem a bit shocking. The fact that such a small number of Americans have a passport is strange because America is a relatively affluent country. That would tend to indicate that Americans would have the resources to get a passport and to travel abroad.
Since 2009, when travelers had to show passports to enter Mexico and Canada from the US, some Americans have gotten passports and others simply chose not to travel to those countries anymore.
It seems that because America is so large and so geographically and culturally diverse, many Americans feel that they don’t need to get a passport and that there is plenty right here in America to keep them busy.
If you think that you may need to get a passport, it is a good idea to get one before you make your travel arrangements. Some people wait until the last minute to get their passports. If you decide to wait until the last minute, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to travel. It just means that you will need to get an expedited passport.
Do you hold a U.S. passport? If so, when does it expire? Do you need to renew your passport? If you don’t yet have a passport, it is a good idea to get one and be prepared just in case you do decide to travel abroad.
If you are a US citizen and interested in getting a US passport to travel anywhere in the world, contact Rush Passport™. If you need an expedited passport, emergency passport, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. It is estimated that approximately 1 of 3 Americans hold a valid US passport. That means that there are an awful lot of Americans who don’t have a US passport.
One man, Rick Steves is trying to inspire those Americans who have yet to get a US passport. How? He has launched the “No Passport? No Problem!” campaign. Under this program, Steves pledges to underwrite the cost of a first-time passport for any passport applicants who sign up for one of his travel company’s tours.
Steves he got his passport at the age 14 and he has since been well traveled, having had his passport stamped throughout Europe. He has written tour guidebooks and runs a travel company that takes approximately 10,000 Americans abroad each year.
Sure, Steves is using the fact that many Americans don’t have a passport to help sell tours, but some may need that extra push to take the plunge and finally get a US passport.
Nearly 14 million US passports and US passport cards were issued in 2010, but still approximately 70% of US citizens don’t have a passport.
In order to qualify for the free passports, clients must send in copies of their first-time 2011 passport with a receipt from Steves’ tour company.
It seems that Steves is getting Americans passports – one passport at a time.

Do you need a US passport today? Is your US passport expired? Do you need a passport for a trip that you are planning to take overseas? Getting a US passport can be a daunting task for some people. The US passport application has to be filled out just right. The passport photos have to satisfy the passport guidelines. And if you need your passport quick – there is a passport expediting process to contend with.
For a Pennsylvania man, an American who has been trying to get his passport renewed, the passport process has been a nightmare. Since June 2010, Michael Hudson has been trying to get his US passport renewed so that he can visit his son in Bermuda.
For regular passport applicants, the process can take four to six weeks. For this man, the passport process has taken 7 months and he still has nothing to show for it. After contacting the Passport office in Portsmouth, New Hampshire he was told that his passport application is still being processed.
The man, a 54 year old US citizen with no criminal record has been waiting in limbo for his passport to arrive. The passport office has asked Hudson to produce more information about his education, medical history, financial status and family background.
He has already sent the passport agency copies of his credit card and Social Security card, driver’s license, water bill and a school report card and is still waiting.
Don’t let this happen to you. If you need a passport, let the passport experts at Rush Passport™ make your trips come true!
