Current US government regulations require all international airline passengers regardless of age to hold a valid US passport. This passport regulation includes all infants and even newborns that are traveling internationally. Currently, the U.S. government offers two types of passport processing: routine passport services and expedited passport service.
According to the US Department of State website, passport applicants who choose routine passport service can expect to receive their new passports within 6 – 8 weeks after submitting their passport applications. It is important to understand that passport processing times may vary depending on the year that the passport application is submitted. There are busy travel seasons and passport applicants may experience delays of up to 3 months.
If you need to travel abroad unexpectedly, the traditional passport application process mentioned above would not be a viable option. For travelers who need to get a passport quickly, the U.S. government offers expedited passport service. The expedited passport services offered by the government generally allow you to receive your new passport in approximately 3 weeks. Three weeks may be sufficient, but what if you need to travel sooner than that or if you want to be 100% sure that you get your passport in time?
For passport applicants who want to be 100% sure to get their passports in time for their trips, there is a third option. US passport applicants who need to travel on short notice of less than 14 days can get their passports through a passport expeditor. Passport applicants should verify that the passport expeditor is registered to conduct business with the US Department of State as well as work with the US Passport Agency and foreign embassies. Rush Passport™ is a New York City based passport agency and is the nation’s leader for U.S. passport and foreign Visa Expediting.

Do you think that people will ever be able to apply for their passports online? Online passport applications would certainly reduce the amount of paperwork. However, the security risks may be too high for the passport application process to ever be available online.
The number of passports applications able to be processed would likely double if they were allowed to be completed online. People with passport emergencies, in need rush passports, same day passport could apply with ease. People who have lost or stolen passports, expired passports or are in need passport renewal services could apply for new passports online.
The online passport application process would not only save time, but would reduce the amount of staff needed at the Passport Office.
The online passport application would also reduce inaccuracies due to poor penmanship.
Some think that passport applicants should not only be able to file passport applications online, but also be able to log in and retrieve information regarding the passport application status.
Passport applicants would also be able to determine whether or not their passports were issued and would receive notification and reasons if their passport applications were rejected.
Online passport applications may be a thing of the future or they may never happen at all.

May the 4th is known in some circles as Official Star Wars Day… get it? “May the 4th Be With You!”. That being said, it is also a great time to get a US passport. Summertime will soon be upon us and by waiting for the last minute, you will have to deal with longer lines and longer wait time. Those applying for a passport in May have much less competition than those applying in June and July. There are a few tips to remember when it is time to apply for your US passport.
First, if you have any questions about getting a passport, contact the passport experts at Rush Passport™ by calling us at (212) 643-9305. At Rush Passport™ every day is “Passport Day” and we are even open on Saturdays. Feel free to call us with any passport questions that you may have.
It is important for passport applicants to remember to bring the following:
- an unsigned passport application (it is important to sign the application in front of the passport agent
- photo identification (driver’s license is the best form of photo ID)
- a photocopy of that identification
- documentation proving you are a U.S. citizen (birth certificate / naturalization papers)
- 2 passport photos (If you don’t have them, we have passport photo services available on the premises)
- Funds to pay passport fees
It is also important to know that applicants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by their parents. (If both parents are unavailable, there are accomodations that can be made.)
At Rush Passport™ we make getting a passport easy.

Passport photos should not be underestimated. Since the passport is a very important document and is good for 10 years, don’t just roll out of bed and have your passport photo taken. Trust me, having to look at that same blah photo for 10 years of traveling may put a damper on your trip for a moment each time that you are asked to whip out your passport. Before today, I didn’t give much thought to the way people looked in their passport photos. That was until I met Alma Schneider. Alma is founder of
Take Back the Kitchen, LLC.

Alma Schneider's Passport Photos
Alma had an upcoming trip overseas and needed to replace her expired passport. She arrived at Rush Passport with her expired passport in hand and she was upset. She wasn’t as upset about the expired passport as she was about her passport photo. The photo was taken 14 years ago and she was upset because she looked good in the passport photo. Most people would be upset about a passport photo that looked bad, but the reason why Alma was upset was because she didn’t think that she would be able to recapture the youthfulness she exhibited 14 years earlier.
Alma set out to get a passport photo taken that she could proudly present for the next 10 years.
If you want a passport photo that will last the next 10 years, come to Rush Passport’s NYC passport office. We will do our best to make you look your best! After all, the passport is good for 10 years, why shouldn’t the passport photo make you feel good too?
If you need a visa, an expedited passport, emergency passport, passport renewal, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. You can visit us at http://www.rushpassport.com or call us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to speak with a Live Passport Agent.
