The number of Americans passport holders is growing. This shouldn’t sound too strange because the US population is also growing. However, a greater percentage of Americans have their passports than ever before. More than 33% of Americans, approximately 110 million out of 313 million Americans have passports. In the year 2000, there were less than 50 million Americans with passports. In 1989, just 7 million Americans held passports. In 1989, less than 3 percent of Americans had passports. Today, less than 25 years later the percentage of Americans with passports has grown more than 30%. What is the reason for this phenomenon?
For starters, Americans have a very large country in comparison to their European counterparts. Larger territory means more areas to visit within the country. This eliminates the need for a passport. For the most part in the early 1990′s Americans felt that there was plenty to see here in the United States. In addition, passports were not needed to travel to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico or Canada back then.
Americans used to be able to cross borders into Mexico and Canada without a passport. Now with passports required for travel, many Americans have gotten their passports. Still, two thirds of Americans do not have passports.
In 2007 the US Department of State set the record with over 18 million passport issued. Experts agree that the increase in passports is primarily linked to citizens who needed passports for travel to Mexico and Canada.
Business travelers also account for the increase in passport issued in this country. Companies seeking for new methods to increase revenue look to foreign countries. This creates a need for employees to get passports for business travel.
If you still haven’t gotten your passport, what are you waiting for?

The passport application process may seem confusing for passport applicants who are applying for a first time passport. Getting a US passport should be easy as long as you have all of the necessary items and the right passport expediter.
To obtain a US passport, first you must complete the passport application. The passport application is available at the following website: New US Passport Application
Remember not to sign the passport application until it is submitted in person.
You will also need to have 2 passport photos. Rush Passport™ can take care of the passport photos for you. The passport photos need to follow specific guidelines. Passport photos must feature the subject framed properly with full face, front view, with eyes opened.
An acceptable passport photo must present full head from top of hairline to bottom of chin. The head must be centered within the passport photo. Subject needs to be photographed against a plain white or off-white background. The passport photo should be free of shadows on the face of the subject or in the background. In order for the passport photo to be accepted, the subject should be encouraged to have a natural expression. The passport photos will be submitted along with the passport application at the passport agency.
Rush Passport™ , passport expeditors, accepts US passport applications at our NYC passport agency. It is necessary to have your 2 passport photos, your passport application (unsigned), proof of U.S. citizenship, valid identification, and the accompanying passport fees.
As of January 2012, the US Dept of State is processing passports within a four-six week period. However, if you need to travel right away, that’s won’t help. Rush Passport™ has the solution. Customs officers in the United States check passports of non-resident visitors everyday at airports all over the country. Passport holders from countries all over the world visit the United States and spend money on food, hotels, clothing and souvenirs. Visitors use their passports to visit New York City, Las Vegas, Disney World and a host of other destinations.
While the tourist industry in the United States is doing well, many believe that it could be doing better. Passport holders abroad must sometimes wait months to find out whether or not their tourist visa applications will be approved. This inconvenience may cause travelers who wish to come to the United States to use their passports to travel to other destinations instead.
It was not always the case that foreign visitors had to wait so long to get a tourist visa to visit the US. After the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks foreign visitors certainly have a tougher time getting a temporary visa. A campaign is in motion that may sway Congress into giving the US Department of State’s tourist visa application process an overhaul.
The proposed amendments to the US passport and visa process are expected to increase the number of visitors to the United States. However, while tourism may see a boost, these changes must not compromise the nation’s security. It is not an easy task for the State Department to increase passport visa services while maintaining tight security.
When it comes to visa services in the United States, security is the top priority. The visa system must enforce the immigration laws of the United States. Some are opposed to increasing the number of visitors because they feel that more visas would mean that the nation would be placed at greater risk.
The risk of freely handing out visas doesn’t only mean that there is more potential for terrorism, it also means that people may enter the country with temporary visas and never return to their countries of origin. While the US Department of State would like people who enter the US with visas to go home when their visas expire, many people want to come and live here.
If you need a visa, an expedited passport, emergency passport, passport renewal, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. How do you get a US passport in New York? Passport applicants who wish to get a passport for the first time need to appear in person. In order to get a passport, passport applicants must satisfy all of the passport requirements. First time passport applicants need to produce original or certified copies of their birth certificates. A previous US passport is also acceptable. When it comes to children 15 years of age or younger who wish to get a US passport, an original or certified birth certificate that indicates the full names of both parents must be submitted.
What are the requirements for US passport renewal? Passport renewal is easier than applying for a first time passport. Passport renewal applicants need to submit the expired passport. Passport applicants from ages 16 to 18 years of age may appear with only one parent. If the passport applicant has a valid, permanent driver’s license, then parental consent is unnecessary. Children ages 15 and under need to have both parents in attendance at the time that the passport application is completed. If only one parent is available, proof that indicates that the applying parent has consent to apply for the passport must be submitted.
What are the acceptable forms of identification when applying for a US passport? Examples of proper identification to get a valid US passport include driver’s license, government employee identification card or previous US passport that is less than 15 years old. All passport applicants need to have a social security number. If the passport applicant does not have valid identification, then an identifying witness who has known the passport applicant for at least two years must accompany the applicant.
What are the rules regarding passport photos? Passport applicants need to bring two identical photographs measuring 2” by 2”. The background must be light, with a full frontal face shot and matte finish.
What fees are involved in getting a passport? Passport fees for adults are currently $110 for adults. This does not include the fees for expedited passports. Passport fees are $80 for children age 15 and younger (passport expediting fees not included). Checks or US postal money orders are the only acceptable forms of payment to the US Department of State.

However, if you want to make sure that everything is done properly, contact Rush Passport™ Official US Passport Expeditors, serving Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan, Westchester County, Nassau County & Suffolk County, Long Island, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
When it comes to getting a passport for a child, many questions come up. The most commonly asked question is the age that a child is considered an adult. People ages 16 years and older require an adult passport, while those under 16 years of age require a child passport. Another common passport question involves a child being too young to sign his or her own passport. If this is the case, the mother or father should print the child’s name, but sign their own name. (The parent should also write the word (mother) or (father) in parenthesis so that the US Dept of State officials are aware of who signed the passport.
Another common child passport question: Is it necessary for both parents or legal guardians to give consent for a child passport? As of February 1, 2008, the law requires that US passport applications for minors require both parents’ or legal guardians’ consent. There are some circumstances in which this can be modified, such as if both parents are not around, or if there is a custody battle. In additon, the Child’s Passport Issuance Alert Program (CPIAP) notifies parents of passport applications made on behalf of minor children.
If you have further questions about child passports, or if you need an expedited passport, emergency passport, passport renewal, same day passport, US Passport book, US Passport Card, passport photos or other passport services, be sure to contact Rush Passport™. Are you looking for passport renewal? Passport renewal doesn’t have to be difficult. There are some simple steps to follow to ensure that the passport renewal process is as simple as possible. Getting a new passport involves more steps than passport renewal. Passport renewal means that you are not required to appear at a passport application acceptance facility. Instead you can apply for passport renewal by mail.
However, if you have urgent travel plans, you may need to appear in person in order to expedite the passport renewal process.
Passport renewal through the mail generally takes from 6-8 weeks. However if you need your passport renewed in less than two weeks, you can qualify for expedited passport renewal service.
In order to renew a passport by mail, your current passport cannot be damaged. In addition, the passport cannot have been issued more than 15 years ago. Also, at the time that the passport was issued you must have been at least 16 years old. Lastly, you must still have the same name that appears on the passport or you must be able to legally document your name change.
If you do not meet all the above requirements, you will be required to apply for your passport renewal in person.

Passport applications are not always filled out correctly resulting in a large number of applications getting denied. At times when the National Passport Agency is experiencing high volume in processing passport applications, it is advisable to consider using expedited services. If you are a potential passport applicant, you are encouraged to apply for your passports as soon as possible.
Passengers who are scheduled to travel overseas within 14 days and who do not have a valid passport, need to get an appointment with the National Passport Agency. In order to get a passport, you may be required to make the trip to New York City – but in the end you will receive your passport within 24 hours.
Due to the high demand of passports, expedited services are recommended. Without the expedited delivery option, regular passport processing times can take from four to six weeks. By that time you may have already missed your trip.
Passport applications may be obtained at Rush Passport’s™ Passport Agency, 875 6th Avenue, Suite #1606, New York, NY 10001. Passport applications and related information also can be found online at http://www.rushpassport.com/new_passport.php .
Our New York City Passport Agency is ready to assist you in any way that we can. Our staff is fluent in English, Spanish and Russian. Our passport agency is dedicated to making the passport process as simple as possible.
