Rush Passport: Celebrity Passport Applications Revealed: Celebrity Passport 1 of 6

Babe Ruth Celebrity Passport ApplicationIn a previous Rush Passport™ passport blog entry the obsession with celebrities was discussed.  Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, the Department of State has given access to thousands of celebrity passport applications.

The celebrity passport application featured in this passport blog entry is none other than Babe Ruth.  The Yankee slugger, also known as the Sultan of Swat and the Bambino filled out his passport application for the purpose of “baseball playing” in Havana, Cuba.

Not only does Babe Ruth’s passport application list his travel plans, but also mentions the size of his mouth and chin and many other details about the slugger.

Besides mentioning that Babe Ruth was traveling with his wife Helen who was born in El Paso, Texas, it lists his current address as 674 W 161 Street, NY.  Ruth needed this passport to visit Havana, Cuba by way of Key West, Florida on October 27, 1920.

There is a section of the passport application titled “Description of Applicant” in which Ruth is listed as 27 years old, and standing 6 feet 1 ½ inches tall.  On the passport application the following features are listed: medium forehead, brown eyes, short nose, large mouth, round chin, dark brown hair, dark complexion, round face with no distinguishing marks.

The passport application is also signed by an identifying witness and an affidavit from a non-relative.

Ruth’s passport application also comes complete with a picture of Ruth and of his wife.

Click here or on the image for a larger look at Babe Ruth’s passport application.

Come back to Rush Passport™’s passport blog to see who the next celebrity passport application belongs to.  We’re sure that you won’t be disappointed.,,

Babe Ruth Celebrity Passport

People are obsessed with celebrities.  In a previous Rush Passport™ passport blog entry it was reported that a passport employee was even hit with felony charges for accessing confidential celebrity passports.

However, you can see some of the world’s most famous celebrity passport applications here at Rush Passport™’s celebrity passport blog.  Can you guess whose passport application states that he is going to Havana, Cuba for the purpose of “baseball playing”?  It’s not Fidel Castro’s application – but here’s a hint – ever heard of the Sultan of Swat?  Give up?  You’ll have to check Rush Passport™’s passport blog over this next week to find out.  At Rush Passport™’s passport blog, we will be giving you access to 6 of the most famous celebrities of the past 100 years – and don’t worry – there won’t be any felony charges filed against you.

Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, to access celebrity passport applications, you don’t even need a publicist’s approval or a big payout… this information is all free.  All you have to do is ask the State Department.  Passport applications list such details as birth and marriage histories, travel plans, autographs, and some of them even include passport photos.

While I did say that this juicy celebrity passport database is all free – I didn’t say that it would be quick.  Unlike the passport expediting process – that can take as little as 6 hours at Rush Passport™, the celebrity passport application requests took approximately a year and a half to process.

For some reason, the last time we checked, Elvis Presley’s passport application was off limits.  There was no formal explanation from the State Department.

Another celebrity passport application states that a woman was taking the Queen Mary to Europe on “business.”  Her husband is listed as Joseph Paul DiMaggio.  I guess that’s enough of hint to figure out whom that celebrity passport application belongs to.

In addition to finding out some great facts about our favorite celebrities, the celebrity passport applications of the past asked for some additional information that is not on today’s passport application.  For example, in 1920 passport applicants were asked to list the size of their mouths, and the shape of their chins and foreheads.  Passport applications only cost $2 back then and passports were only valid for 2 years.

It is also important to note that passports were not required for US citizens (except for a brief time during the Civil War) until 1941.

Today passports are required to go to Mexico and Canada whereas a driver’s license used to be enough.  Passports are also valid for 10 years.  Today’s passports feature biometric passport chips that contain important passport holder data.

Check back at Rush Passport™‘s passport blog to see which celebrity passport applications we will be posting.

New Passport Laws Starting May 2011: Rush Passport™

NEW US PASSPORT LAWS STARTING MAY 2011: Rush Passport™

Get a Passport Quick in NYCThe US Passport is considered one of the most secure passports on the planet.  In an effort to make the US passport even more secure, the US Department of State periodically conducts investigations to ensure that passport operations are living up to rigorous standards.

A 2009 passport investigation found a practice that posed a potential threat to passport security.  With regard to passport applications, some town clerk’s offices allowed the same clerk to process both birth certificates and passports.  This could pose a potential breakdown in passport security.  As with anything else, passport protocol should include checks and balances in an effort to minimize corruption.

In response to the passport investigation, the US Department of State has helped to institute a new federal passport law that changes the way town clerk’s offices will process passports.

The new passport law, which will be effective May 1, 2011, will not allow the same clerk from processing both birth certificates and passports in offices throughout the country.  In addition, the new passport law requires a separate office area for the sole purpose of processing passport applications.

According to John E. Echart, U.S. State Department spokesman, the change should help to address concerns that passport investigators had regarding “the potential vulnerability posed by dual-function facilities.”

US Passport Data May Have Been Compromised. Do You Know Which Agency is to Blame?

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Passport SecurityThe e-Passport is considered the cornerstone of America’s border security.  The Government Printing Office (GPO) is responsible for maintaining the security of the US passport.  The GPO is under fire as their passport security has been called into question after discovering that 88 laptops have gone missing.  The missing laptops are said to contain access to sensitive information about the e-Passport.

The majority of the missing laptops come from the GPO’s Information and Technology Services division.  This division has access to sensitive passport data and is known to have passport data and information stored on the computers.

The e-Passports contain biometric information on computer chips.  The computer chips are implanted into US passports with the intention of validating identity of passport holders.  This data is then transmitted via radio frequency to US customs officials at passport check points.  Passport data and the actual passport photos are all digitized.

This is not the first time that the GPO has come under criticism regarding the safety of the US passport.  The GPO has been criticized in the past for outsourcing some passport components to Thailand.

The Thailand component of the passport operation was supposed to have been transferred to Minnesota earlier this year, but the passport components are still being made in Thailand.

While there is no evidence that any sensitive passport information has been compromised, the GPO is revamping their inventory control system for turning in used laptops.

Some reports have the number of missing laptops at as many as 213.  Regardless of exactly how many laptops are missing, the GPO needs to put more safeguards in place to uphold the security of the US passport.

375 Diplomatic Passports Revoked!

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

passport Ghana visa375 diplomatic passports were revoked in Ghana just one week after Wikileaks released documents exposing the corruption of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) governments.

The corruption that led the Atta Mills government to revoke the 375 diplomatic passports was in the way they handled the fight against narcotics in the country.

The diplomatic passports that were revoked include Pastors, Imams, businessmen and chiefs.  Not only is there no official word by the government that the passports were revoked because of the passport holders’ connection to drugs, and the government of Ghana flat out denies that the passports were revoked due to the WikiLeaks report.

President of Ghana, Atta Mills, according to the WikiLeaks report, was quoted as telling the American Ambassador in Ghana that he felt that there was a lot of corruption among airport officials and other holders of diplomatic passports.

The decision to revoke the 375 diplomatic passports less than a week after the WikiLeaks report makes one wonder whether these passports would have been revoked had the WikiLeaks report not have been released.

If indeed many of the people whose passports were revoked were involving in the traffic of narcotics, then this may prove to have been an effective strike against the narcotics operation of Ghana.

If you need to have your Ghanian diplomatic passport reinstated, we don’t have any advice for you.  But, if you are a US citizen and interested in getting a US passport, contact Rush Passport™. US Passport Regulations: Taiwan Visa-Waiver Program

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

Passport VisaIn recent passport news, it was reported that Taiwan wished to be considered eligible for visa-free entry to the United States.  That would mean that Taiwan citizens with valid passports would be able to travel to the US without need for a visa.  This new passport policy would go into effect in 2011.   Taiwan is anxious to get this passport initiative into effect and passport officials have been putting all of the components together so that this passport resolution is passed.   As part of the visa-waiver program requirements, Taiwan will agree to exchange information on stolen or counterfeit passports, on terrorists and will collaborate to fighting global crime.

Taiwan must satisfy the conditions mentioned above before the US would consider them for the visa-waiver program (VWP).   Taiwan passport officials claim that there is a need for a visa-waiver program with the US due to the extensive flow of passport holders between Taiwan and the US.  Taiwan was recently granted visa-free privileges in parts of Europe.   Issues with granting Taiwan visa-free privileges include visa refusal rates, cases of overstay in the US and a passport application and issuance procedure that requires potential travelers to apply for passports and visas in person.

Taiwan is putting in place new procedures that will require visa applicants to complete their passport applications in person.  This new passport application practice is scheduled to begin March 1, 2011.   Taiwanese passport officials recently met with the US Department of Homeland Security in Washington, DC to discuss this new passport proposal.   Currently 96 countries / regions across the globe grant Taiwanese passport holders visa exemptions.

Passport Used in New Travel Trend. Would You Use Your Passport for This?

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Passport Tribal TourismGot your passport?  The average US citizen may decide to get a passport in order to travel to Europe for some culture.  Another reason to get a passport may be to soak up some sun in the Caribbean.  Now there is a different reason to get a passport – it’s called “tribal tourism”.  It’s a new trend now that has brought along a lot of controversy.  There are few countries on earth where you can still come face to face with ancient cultures.  But if you grab your passport and head to Papua New Guinea you will find 850 different tribes speaking 800 languages.

Other parts of the world where a passport can bring you into a completely different culture include parts of Peru, Kenya and the Pacific Northwest.

Did you ever imagine that your passport could put you in the center of an ancient shaman ritual?  Until recently, the closest you could get to these places was to check out a National Geographic magazine.  Nowadays, tribal tourism is becoming almost mainstream with US citizens lining up to get a passport so they can stay in a wooden huts with open floorboards and open walls.

A passport can gain you access to places that you couldn’t even imagine still exist.

However, opponents feel that tourists cheapen the spiritual tradition of these ancient cultures and should back off.  For an example of the detrimental effects of tribal tourism, one should look at a tribe in Guatemala whose spiritual traditions have been tainted by this new brand of tourism.

The local tribe members base a spiritual tradition around Maximon, a pre-Christian deity.  Once a year, the tribes people bring out a statue and parade him through the village of Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala.  During the remainder of the year, the carved figure is protected by guardians.  During a recent visit to Guatemala, an attorney for indigenous people witnessed that the holy diety had been adorned with a cowboy hat and a Mickey Mouse necktie courtesy of a Japanese tourist.

I should hope that there are better ways to use your passport.

Regardless of what your feelings are about tribal tourism, if you are a US citizen and interested in getting a US passport, contact Rush Passport™.
